“Really basic services, but super-comfy room and near downtown”
Reviewed December 4, 2008

I'm dedicated to Hyatts in the fourth quarter each year as they usually have a 2-for-1 rewards program if you use the specificed credit card. However, Boston can be tricky - The Hyatt Regency and others are often sold out, or super expensive.

While technically outside of Boston, this Hyatt is usually within 15 minutes of any meeting I have in the city. It's significantly less expensive than the downtown hotels and lets me add to my reward nights.

The setting is spartan - road-side on a busy street. However it has a kind of cool, minimalist vibe. The staff is super-friendly. However, you are truly on your own for food or other services. No room service and I didn't find much in the way of restaraunts nearby other than chinese and fast-food.

The room was a really pleasant surprise - large with super-comfy king sized bed and large flat screen TV. Very clean, very pleasant.

We stayed at this hotel 3rd / 4th July 2008 - 2 Adults 2 Children.

More than happy with this hotel and very reasonable price. The rooms are very large and ideal if you have younger children as there is a room devide. We loved the big TV and relaxing sofa's.

Breakfast was a little bit of a free for all but it was the holidays so may have been extra busy.

Would definately use Hyatt place again.

I stayed here for a class trip when it was an Amerisuites, and I found it to be very nice. The rooms were pretty good, the breakfast was great, and they were nice. I had to take a bus to the train station to get into town, but I didn't mind that. It's not a central location, though, but that's the only complaint I have about this place. Great hotel, period.

We first stayed in a Hyatt Place on a trip south last year and after pricing hotels for a long family weekend in Boston I decided to book at the Hyatt Place in Meford, save $150 a night and commute via the T into the city. It was the right choice! The hotel has a relaxed feel, contemporary fixtures, engaged staff, and a great location- just 2 miles from the Wellington Station on the Orange line.

  • Liked — The room layout is unique

The breakfast is NOT a breakfast - it's english muffins, bagels, fruits, and coffee/tea. No eggs are even offered, you have to pay for them - and it's minimum $6.50 per person. For EGGS!

Second, you're better off driving yourself to the Wellington T station. The free shuttle goes all over creation before you actually get there - and they stop service at 9pm!!

Third, our room was directly outside the kitchen, and at 5:45 am on Saturday we got woken up by the kitchen crew & staff having a grand ole time. I opened the door to show them that people were right there and they didnt seem to care.

The hotel couldnt do anything about it because they were at maximum capacity.

The gym is not a gym - it's 4 cardio machines - thats it!! No free weights or anything. Definitely not cool.

The room itself was nice and spacious, although it had a lot of spots on the carpet and the bathroom was smaller than a closet. Definitely needs some renovations.

The directions getting to this place drop you in the middle of a neighborhood for awhile. And you're not "riverside" of anything, although the pictures say otherwise...

  • Liked — the room was nice for the price
  • Disliked — everything! the hotel location, the breakfast, the gym, the room location, the staff was rude at 5 am on saturday!!!!

Stayed here for three nights while in town for a wedding in Belmont. I picked the hotel because it was close to Somerville (between 5-10 minutes and where the bridge and groom live) and cheaper than the hotels in Cambridge (and had nice perks like free wireless and free parking) Check-in was easy and I appreciated the secure garage underground (there's also a parking lot behind the hotel).

The entire Hyatt Place "concept" seems very traveler-focused and there were very thoughtful touches throughout the hotel. The ability to buy premade food or order food 24 hours a day and pay with your room card was very cool. The only downside was the "made to order" meal, which was pretty much like airplane food (I ordered pasta with chicken and salad). On the up side, the portions were gigantic and the food was pretty cheap.

The free breakfast was great in the morning (Starbucks coffee, cut fresh fruit, bagels, cereal, bananas and apples, fruit juice, etc.).

I was concerned about the free wireless because we have a mac but the signal was great and it never fritzed out. The free wireless was amazing. Nothing is more irritating than when you have to pay for internet access or there is no wireless access.

The bed was comfortable and the pillows in particular were super comfortable (Pacific Coast). The GIGANTIC flatscreen LCD TV rotates so you can watch it from the sectional or from the bed and the picture quality was crisp. The bath was okay but nothing special. The quality and style of the furnishings more than made up for it though. The full ironing board and iron in the closet were useful.

The location of the hotel was very convenient and shops, restaurants, banks, CVS pharmacy were all within walking distance.

The "public" areas like the lobby, lounge, and dining areas were really nice. The free "office" off of the lobby with printer and computers was also very convenient.

All of the employees were also very helpful.

The photos of the hotel spaces and rooms on the Hyatt Place website were all accurate.

The only thing that would make this place even better would be better food (although there are plenty of places to eat in Medford and nearby Somerville/Cambridge) and microwaves in the hotel rooms (although the bar sink, counter space and minifridge and coffee maker were appreciated).

All in all I am impressed with Hyatt Place (never stayed at one before) and I would definitely stay at this particular one the next time I am in Boston!

This room was $89/night through priceline. The room was set up nicely, as seen on the website. Computer work area was separate from bed. We were placed in a non-smoking room but was last inhabited by a smoker. The staff was friendly and immediately put us in another room. An adapter for wireless internet, unlike other hotels, was free. Parking was also free. This hotel was a quick drive to the train station to get into Boston.

One downside was the bathroom. It was okay but not the best. It could use some updating.
