“Great breakfast spot - and a true diner atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2014

We were staying a few miles away in a rental on Mattapoisett Neck and wanted a quick breakfast. The diner looked inviting (and was open - opens at 5:30 AM some weekend days). The service was excellent. The food great. And the prices amazingly inexpensive. A real "find".

“Adorable local diner”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2014 via mobile

Cheerful and prompt wait staff. Clean tables. Typical diner menu.
Had the corn beef hash, 2 poached eggs, with rye toast. We also tried the Portuguese omelette which had linguica sausage, onions and peppers.... Delicious.

“They Don't Come Better Than This”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2014

I'm a sucker for American style diners - shades of the sitcom Happy Days series set in the 1950's. And I've been to a fair sprinkling of such diners here in Massachusetts. Diners ranging from, "Let me out of this nightmare joint, this living hell!" at the bottom of the dining experience to ... to the Mattapoisett Diner, at the very top of the pops when it comes to these kind of eateries.

Yes, it was indeed Happy Days to eat at the Mattapoisett diner. It is the cleanest such establishment that I've been to. The service is friendly, the food tastes good, and it's cheap -. cheap but not nasty, I hasten to add.

For anyone whose in the neighborhood and hasn't tried this type of dining establishment, do pop in and give this place a whirl. You'll remember the experience. And if you are already a full bottle on Happy Days style diners, give this one a go when in Massapoisett. It will be a happy day for you!

“Mattie's Back in Town!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2014

Matt Gamache, the king of local diners, has given the former South Coast Local Dinner a major face lift with a nautical theme which suits its vintage 1950s bones very well. Opening in Feb. 2014, it is a welcome port in the storm for all who crave fresh local reasonably priced comfort food, served with a smile. My husband and I just moved to the area, and stopped by for lunch served with a generous portion of hospitality. The small order of fish and chips included 2 pieces of lightly breaded moist white fish, served with lots of hand cut fries and scrumptious fresh as a daisy chopped coleslaw. Linda, our server, was super attentive with coffee refills, and took extra time to ensure that my "date" and I were seated in a comfy booth. The owner, Matt (you'll know him by his diner king crown), stopped by to ensure that all of his customers were happy. Nice touch. Stroll or rock on over for breakfast or lunch.
