“Raw Bar aptly named: local's watering hole with a pricey but fresh raw bar.”

We hit Poppenosset's Raw Bar mid afternoon after learning about the purveyor and his legendary lobster roll from a 2012 magazine article. Nestled in New Seabury, an upscale development on southwest Cape Cod, a stone's throw from the Mashpee beaches. The Raw Bar is in the midst of the Poppenosset shopping village. A no frills watering hole, with pub like charm, it's as small as a village band stand, with an outdoor dinning tent eating area - no fluff here! The single sheet drink/cocktail 8 x11 menu is impressive collection of libations. Draft pints at $4.50 fresh and seasonal, coctails & wine $7.50 and up. Flip over the menu and the Raw Bar's offerings are straight forward standard seafood, albeit pricey for such low brow decor. The chowder was savory, hot and good (better be this is the Cape). The oysters were compact but tasty and local & fresh...some fresh horse radish would have been appreciated. The peel & eat shrimp were likewise fresh and tender. Cocktail sauce was piquant and well made, the squeeze bottle matched the rough vibe. The lobster rolls were an enormous pile of super fresh chilled lobster meat in a fresh white roll (8 inch grinder). They were untoasted and this "is Not " lobster salad w/mayo for you traditionalists. My wife and I shared one, we ate the pile down until we could pick up the halves and polish them off. Over all an interesting cultural experience. We got to observe the locals in their happy hour glory, a drinker's community for sure. The super fresh seafood was quickly served in simple no frills environment. If this place was on the water it would be a slam dunk! Polite crowd, matter of fact staff, local feel...

We went for a birthday dinner (party of four) and had a 6:30 reservation. The view and sunset were great even though third table back. There was a large wedding in the tent. We had shared apps - bruschetta and "Poppy" crab cakes. To put it into a single word - tragic! The bruschetta was a slice of ciabatta bread, neither toasted or warmed, two small tomato slices, some cheese covering 25% of the bread and a drizzle of balsamic - Italy wept! The entrees (three lobster rolls and a steak tip salad) were no better. The lobster rolls have been described by other reviewers and the salad somehow came with no dressing whatsoever. One of our party who has worked banquet service said that they are a banquet facility. Certainly the tray stand right next to our table where used plates were stacked for extended periods screamed banquet. Our waitress put in periodic visits and had to be asked twice for a second glass of wine. Done it once, never again.

Indeed, this place has Bella vistas and you can hear and smell Mother Ocean from the dining area. Food was fine and service was good. I'm glad I have dinner there. It's like a one and done deal. Bar area was not appealing. They need to reconfigure the bar

Lovely view so it's imperative you get there before sunset. Service is attentive. My lobster and shrimp dish contained no lobster...back it went.

We were staying locally for the week and walked the half mile here. We had a cocktail in the very crowded bar but were seated in the dining room after a short wait (we had no reservation). The salad with grilled shrimp was large and fresh. The pasta with seafood was excellent and could have been enough for two. The best was the veal chop, meaty and cooked just as ordered. Again, the portion was enough for two. Food and wine prices were reasonable and in line for the food quality, atmosphere, and level of service.
