Reviewed January 19, 2014

Stayed here a snowy night in January. Warm, inviting, convenient little restaurant and bar, passable food and excellent service. only complaint a noisy heating system, going on and off all night. Comfy bed and excellent HD television made for a cozy evening.Got great price on Priceline? Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Fitness room is very good with a couple of treadmills an elliptical and a good exercise bike. Nice l...

Like most Holiday Inns, this is a property that has clearly been around for a number of decades. In a competitive corridor of more recent hotels, management is clearly trying to keep up. The front desk staff, especially Luvia, was extremely welcoming and courteous. I was quite gratified to have my advanced IHG Rewards status acknowledged with a room upgrade. This larger room was comfortable and well appointed and everything was in working order. There was a pretty good indoor pool (no hot tub) and a tiny fitness center. The restaurant offered a rather limited dinner menu, but the food was good and reasonably priced. Business was light, so our waiter was also the bartender. He did a great job. Breakfast was limited to an unimaginative buffet that was not included with the cost of the room unless you purchased a package. Service (basically beverage) in this case was surprisingly inefficient.
Structurally, this Holiday Inn is showing its age. There have been some interior renovations demonstrating what I think is a determined effort to try to stay in what will obviously be an expensive, uphill battle. I enjoyed my stay and wish the owners luck.

Dear Upthehudson,

Thank you for the fair and detailed review of our property during your last visit to Marlborough. You are absolutely correct, we are proud to say that we have stood the test of time here at the Holiday Inn Marlborough and we know that at the end of the day...the true value that separates us from the rest of the competition is service and our ability to recognize those who are loyal to our brand, like yourself. So thank you, and we look forward to your next visit to the Marlborough area.

The rooms were very nice and clean - for the most part. Yes, I suppose someone will write back that "we should have told them" but there are certain things that you just go "ew!" and clean up yourself, swearing about the maid (the stain was dried so none of us "missed" it was clearly a lazy maid). Along the same lines, there was no conditioner in our room, just shampoo and lotion. We've been to other Holiday Inns that were almost identical, and they had all three - shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Is the maid selling it or is the hotel not providing conditioner (no, it wasn't combination shampoo conditioner).

The four stars are for the cleaniness except for the bathroom issue noted above, and the size of the room. We had NO problem with highway noise at all, but we do live near a highway. The pillows are not comfortable, but that might just be me. The bedding was very nice, and the heater worked well and kept the room warm despite extremely cold temperatures.

We did eat at the breakfast buffet, which was mostly good, but they had fewer choices than many full breakfast buffets (no pancakes or french toast, only orange juice, water, or coffee).

The only other thing which makes me debate 3 stars instead of 4 is that we came because we had to due to a sports tournament, and the rate charged was 30 dollars more per day than if we reserved on our own. What a racket, it's a joke that group rates are cheaper.

Another plus is location right off of the highway, and no median so you can turn left into the driveway and leave in either direction on Route 20.

Room Tip: There are rooms further from the highway and closer to the highway. Ask if you care about that. We...

Dear 3rh,
I am sincerely grateful for the 4 stars and the detailed review! You obviously read the previous reviews and compared them with your experience before deciding on the 4 stars versus 3 stars. As you can tell by my responses, I too read and take them very seriously; discussing them in detail with my staff as I have yours. I apologize you and your family found yourselves cleaning something in the bathroom; that should never happen. Thank you for still considering our hotel “clean” after such an experience.
Thank you for your comments on the breakfast buffet, we try to switch the items and keep things fresh. Just another reminder that we have more to work on. Please know we are in the process of building a game room on the first floor which should be completed by the end of the month and in time for the next tournament.
I look forward to your next visit to the Marlborough area!

THis hotel never seems to get it right. TV needed to be switched on 3-4 times before showing a picture, hot water took forever, heater is noisy, no coffee in lobby. Room was nice and comfortable. Can't be long now before it becomes a Ramada Inn

We were there for two nights with our teenage daughter. The room was fine and clean. It is a good location because it is minutes from both Southboro and Westboro , where we needed to be and right off 495. We went to the bar both nights and the bartender was rude, the drinks were horrible and there were no snacks at all after 10pm. The front desk help wasn't friendly either.
We would not stay here again simply based on poor customer service.

Dear Lisa,

Thank you again for sharing your experience, and as I mentioned on the last review earlier today on another site, we are sorry we failed to meet your expectations. Unfortunately, our bartenders are licensed and not allowed to serve drinks that are stronger. We understand that tolerance levels are different for everyone however we must be responsible in the way we serve alcohol.

I do hope we have another opportunity to gain your trust and please know the service aspects of your review have been addressed.

This Holiday Inn is only a few miles and about 20 minutes outside of Boston (and many hundreds of dollars difference as compared to a Downtown Hotel). Taking I-90 into Boston, it is an easy and straight run. The area is naturally very beautiful. The rooms were very large and very well equipped with modern amendities. The breakfast room was a little tight, but the selection was plentiful and the serving staff was very friendly and attentive. Overall this was a great place to stay when visiting Boston.

Very enjoyable experience. Greeted amiably at check-in. Very comfortable bed and quiet room. This hotel is right off the highway and plenty of restaurants nearby, whether looking for fast food, familiar chain establishments or more quaint bistros downtown. Price not cheap, but less than many area hotels and overall a good value.
