We booked a room at the Harbor Light Inn, requesting a specific room viewed online only to find out upon our arrival that we had been switched without notice. The room, while supposedly an upgrade, did not even begin to meet our expectations. This is an inn that needs some tender loving care i.e. new paint, new caulking in the bathrooms, updated videos if they are to be made available. There was no attempt to accomodate our disappointment.

It is true that we have posted on our web site, photos of all of our rooms and we believe that it is helpful to show as much information to a prospective guest as possible. Unfortunately, in very rare occaisions we are not able to quarantee that paricular room due to unforseen circumstances like a maintenance problem or , a quest who, without notice to the front desk, decided to extend their stay another day. We are not allowed to touch or move their belongings from the room and have no other alternative but to move the incoming guest to another room. In these very rare situations we try to upgrade the room. We moved these incoming guests to a larger more expensive room on the first floor. We of course did not charge more and offered a bottle of champagne as a token . When the guest later emailed us her disappointment, we expressed our apologies and offered her a free night stay whenever she would be visiting our area.
As far a our video library, it is complimentary and we have over 100 titles that run from old classics to new ones. We also have a large high definition 50" plasma tv with Bose Life Style surround sound that is available for guests to show any movie they choose or rent . We regret any guest who is unhappy for any reason and try our best to rectify the problem when it is brought to our attention.
Sincerely,
Peter Conway
Innkeeper

this is a wonderful, romantic inn in old town marblehead. walking distance to everything. we've been to marblehead often and this is the best
place to stay...and only 10mins drive to salem too.

great breakfast is included with coffee, tea, juice, fresh fruit, baked goods
and a hot entree that varies daily. after sightseeing, we loved the afternoon
snacks of fresh baked cookies, lemonade, coffee...

this visit we stayed in 6&7 - one you can only get to thru the other or
outside thru the backyard...we had a problem with the a/c and while
the staff was very helpful, i would not recommend these rooms in summer.
rooms in the 20's are beautiful, esp. 26&27.
rooms in the #30's are a hike to the 3rd floor.

a better choice on the first floor is room #5, large lovely front room
with fireplace.

ONLY negative...
this inn does not accept children under 10 and family accomodations are in
kind of dingy apartments up the street, a far cry from the beautiful rooms in the inn.

they have a nice pool out back and the new garden room is lovely for
breakfast.

cannot say enough good things about staff...friendly, helpful, polite,
efficient...

this is a wonderful place to stay only about 40 mins from boston.
and the town is great...very friendly people...and lots of things
to see...early in dec. there is a house tour and christmas display
in the town.

would be great for small business conferences too.

A wonderful inn in a great town. If you want to get away with the one you love for a great escape from the routine, this is the place! The Harbor Light Inn is elegantly appointed with something special in every room (we got to peek at several rooms and were so impressed). Our room had a jacuzzi and fireplace, was beautifully furnished and so comfortable. Breakfast offered far more than we expected, and the Inn's staff was eager to make sure our stay was special.

Hosts Peter and Suzanne had several suggestions for tours of beautiful Marblehead. This is truly one of the most unique towns in the country offering the largest collection of pre-1800 owner occuppied homes in the country, specialty shops with surprisingly good prices, and a sense of history befitting the "Home of the American Navy"!

We plan to return often!

Fantastic place to stay when planning a trip to or near Marblehead Ma. The inn is a historical treasure with all the anmenities of a new resort. The room we stayed in had a fireplace and jacuzzi tub to relax after a walk through the historical town of Marblehead, or a short walk to the harbour. We plan to return again. Thanks to the great folks there for making our us feel as if we were at home.

What a romantic weekend! There was so much attention to detail and the staff could not possibly be more helpful. Restaurants are within walking distance and the breakfast at the Inn was fantastic. The room was beautiful and cozy with our fireplace going on a snowy night. There are many shops and stores nearby so we walked everywhere. We highly reccomend this wonderful spot.
