Last night my husband and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. We spent the day exploring Rockport, MA and then headed to dinner in Marblehead. We really had no idea where to go...we were just going to see what the day brought us. We stopped at The Landing first since it had one parking space left in the small lot but it seemed a little pricey and not what we were looking for. We then traveled down the road and saw The Barnacle. It was packed! We thought it must be good if so many people were there on an early Wednesday evening. We circled a few times and finally squeezed into one of the few spots on the street. It was worth it!! We saw the hostess who said the wait would be about 10 or 15 minutes for a table outside and we went to have a drink at the bar. You could tell that this place is quite the hangout for locals. It's old and dated but sweet and homey. I loved it already! After about 15 minutes our hostess got us and we proceeded to a lovely table for two out on the small deck. The view was spectacular! Our server, Courtney was the BEST! She was smart, funny and attentive.
I started with the seafood chowder....sooooo good. My husband ordered chicken wings and they were also good. They had a twin lobster special that everyone was ordering but since we have access to a lot of lobster in RI, we decided to skip it. I had the seafood casserole and it was to die for! The fish and scallops and shrimp were cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes were fantastic (sides are usually nothing to write about) as were my husbands greenbeans. He ordered the surf and turf. He chose scallops as his "surf" and they were wonderful. His "turf" however was overcooked but Courtney noticed before he even took one bite and said she would bring him another right away. After seeing how much food was already on the table, my husband told her he probably was going to wrap it to go anyway. Courtney brought the new steak "to go" and it was perfect! All in all we had the most wonderful anniversary and plan to go back to The Barnacle as soon as we can.

“All types of food with a great New England feel”
Reviewed July 9, 2014 via mobile

This retraunt has good seafood but also great healthy food as while as sandwiches and burgers. It makes you feel like you are in true New England sea shore land. It is a little tight inside but it has an amazing outdoor view of the bay

“Small little pub and restaurant - relaxing on outside patio!”
Reviewed July 3, 2014

We had a late lunch, sitting outside on the patio with view to the ocean. Very friendly staff, lobster roll with a let's say half hand of lobster meat for 20$ a little pricy I think, but tasty. We had a good time here. My wife had baked haddock, which was reallllly good, very fresh and tasty!! Parking around that restaurant and in Marblehead seems to be a mess. Only one way streets, it takes time to find a spot.

“Tried and True”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

I have been eating at The Barnacle for twenty plus years; this place embodies reliability for consistently good food. This restaurant may not be "fit for foodies" , but it's the "foodies" who will miss out. If you seek out fresh delicious seafood, simply and honestly prepared, this is it. Small and rustic inside, it boasts the best ocean views in town: looking over to Marblehead Light and Neck out to the open ocean, the views are unsurpassed. The dining room is so close to the water, that last October, during a storm, the waves crashed onto the windows before me. So if you're in Old Town Marblehead, head down Front Street, and just before the beautiful Ft. Sewall, you'll find The Barnacle. Enjoy the spectacular views and enjoy the fresh seafood!

“Great for Lobster and Steamers”
Reviewed June 26, 2014

This is not the best place to bring the inlays, but it does have great lobster deals. Reminded us of the bar in The Perfect Storm. So if you want a bit of local flair, and great lobster this is the place to come. If you want more elegant fair other there are many options in Marblehead that will fit the bill.
