I've been to Cranwell three times and really love the location in Lenox, and their overall set up. However, the rooms and, actually, may of the amenities including the actual spa, need updating. They are embarking on a major overhaul though as I write this, so I am hopeful that next year it will be back to a 5 star rating as it shold be.
All that said, I cannot say enough about the staff, and the experience. Three buildings are connected to the spa via an indoor walkway, while 2 other buildings, inlcuding the beuatiful 'Mansion House" plus their cottage efficiency units, require an outdoor walk., Depending on the type of stay you want, you should consider this when booking.

Checking in for two nights we were told we would have to switch rooms the next day as they did not have any of the same rooms available for two nights. We were assured that all we had to do was leave our suitcases in our room and let the front desk know, and within an hour we would be in our new room. I spend more than 80 nights a year in hotels for business and have never had that happen, but oh well. Not thrilled, but upon arriving at room was OK with that as our room was very dated in furnishings and turned out to be quite noisy as walls and ceiling paper thin. The morning we did as requested and went out, after stopping by front desk. Returned two hours later to a snippy front desk clerk who told us room would not be ready for another few hours. He said "They were busy, what did we expect". In summary another hour later and two "arguments" we were placed in another room- next door to the one from the night before. REALLY! Essentially ruining our day . The food was good, the bar minimal as the actual bar was under renovation. The location is lovely, and although the grounds are extensive they are too geared towards golf and do not allow any opportunities for walks to appreciate the 350 acres.

Dear I7990PRdonnat,

We are sorry to hear of your disappointment. Guest satisfaction is our number one priority and it seems we did not deliver for you. Each situation you have described will be looked into further and addressed.

Often times when guests book one night and add a 2nd, despite trying out best, we are unable to keep them in the same room. The perfect storm was brewing during your time with us when a large in-house group didn't check out of their guest rooms before attending their final meeting, pushing all housekeeping efforts off schedule.

So glad you enjoyed your meals in the Mansion and the breathtaking vistas that surround our property.

Sincerely,

Deanna

Room Tip: Clean and quiet rooms, we were in the Carriage house

A group of 5 friends just spent one night here. I booked 3 rooms for us that were in the Carriage House. The building was so clean and spacious, and quiet; we actually felt like we were the only ones in it! The rooms were spacious! Two queen size beds, refrigerator, Keurig machine, with coffees, etc. and a beautiful bathroom. A short walk away was the Mansion with the restaurant and lots of old charm. We had lunch and breakfast there and were very impressed that ALL of our dietary issues were met, without a blink! Not to mention how good the food was, with a great variety of choices, at very reasonable prices. Catherine, the Concierge, sent me lots of great ideas of activities to do while here and excellent restaurant suggestions. Cranwell is very close to a lot of shops, restaurants and various activities. Can't wait to return!

Just spent a delightful mid week stay there. We stayed in the Founders Building. It is lovely and our King suite was exquisite. It was well appointed and just beautiful. Complete with anything you need from refrigerator to plush towels galore and books to read. We liked the fact that we walked through the building just a short distance by hallway/tunnel to the spa, pool and fitness center. They were all first class amenities. High end spa and very complete fitness center (even classes!) Luxury but friendly and comfortable too.

We also were close to the main hotel mansion building which is another separate delight. The decor is very elegant. Beautiful lobby area, bar, and dining rooms. Incredible views too. Like a trip back in time to the era of romance and elegance yet we were casually dressed and that worked fine.

Service from check-in to housekeeping and through check out was all superb. We were treated very well. It only added to an already amazing experience.

Highly recommend staying there. Very reasonable price for such a high end place too. I like it much better than other perhaps more well known resorts in the area. We will go back.

Room Tip: If you will use the spa, pool or fitness center, get a room in the buildings attached to that area. So convenient not to walk outside.
