“Great stay at Hampton Terrace”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2007

We stayed for several nights at Hampton Terrace in July - a lovely time to visit Lenox and the Berkshires. We stayed in one of the King suites next to the swimming pool. It was a nice sized room, with a lovely bed, nice bathroom and a large jacuzzi tub in the main room. We did find the AC a bit tricky to get "just right" (sometimes we were too cold, sometimes too hot) and it was rather noisy, but overall the room was great. The main house is beautiful - a little bit of history with a large dining room where breakfast is served. The breakfasts were plentiful and good, with a nice variety of cold and hot foods, coffee, tea and juice. The proprietors were available to give suggestions/directions but didn't impose themselves on the guests. The B&B is just a short walk from the main downtown part of Lenox and a few miles drive from many attractions.

We would definitely go back to Hampton Terrace.

Although most of the reviews we read on Travel Advisor were positive it was the negative ones that worried us. Put your worries aside if you want a nice place to stay in a perfect location in the Berkshires. This was our first stay in the Berkshires and we went to enjoy the Fall colors. We stayed in King Suite #2 which was well appointed with furniture and features that suited us just right. This is a newer building which we prefer when traveling. The bed was comfy, the jacuzzi was nice, the fireplace was a nice touch (it was unseasonably warm and we only used it one night) and the bathroom, while a little small, was fine. We would have preferred a double sink. We are not big breakfast people but we did go to breakfast two of our three days. We found the other guests kept to themselves as we did also. Those, plus check-in were our only visits to the main house and that is when we saw Stan. While not overly outgoing, he is a pleasant host who could answer our questions. We never met or saw Susan. We only saw Atticus the dog once and he is sweet. We didn't go there to make new friends so all of that worked for us. We enjoyed the close walk to restaurants and shops in town. We did drive to most of the surrounding cities while seeking the fall colors (which were gorgeous and plentiful) and found Lenox to be right in the middle and just the right size. We do recommend this B&B highly.

Everything about the Hampton Terrace was very nice. The main house is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful and well maintained, everything was clean and comfortable...couldn't ask for anything more. Stan was very nice and very helpful with explaining the area, and Atticus, loved Atticus! : ) Oh, and breakfast was wonderful!

The location is first class, within easy walking distance of the town and the many restaurants. The rooms are comfortable although there is a mixture of furnishings- it is not sure whether to be colonial or modern. The owner Stan seemed to be a bit stresed at times, especially at breakfast. The Inn was full when we stayed and the dining room struggled to cope, especially as everyone turned up at the same time. Having said that the buffet breakfasts were very good.
A major plus was the $30 voucher to spend in the local wine shop; they have a superb selection of American and European wines!
The room we were in, Room 1, in the Carriage House, was very comfortable, spoiled only by very noisy plumbing from the upstairs room. We were wakened at 6.00am when the guests above us had their showers!

We would go back again but would want a different room.

  • Liked — Proximity to town centre and restaurants.
  • Disliked — Noisy plumbing.

Just this week I traveled from Los Angeles to meet my husband at the Hampton Terrace in Lenox, MA for the fall foilage season. What a wonderful place this is and I can't wait to return!
When I began researching for a great place to stay, I was immediately drawn to Hampton Terrace by the friendly, informative, and helpful manner of the owners. Upon arrival, I was just as impressed. The Inn is lovely! The rooms are extremely well-kept, as are the grounds. We immediately felt welcomed and comfortable. The owners become our friends. All the questions we had about the area were answered and great advice given of where to visit was perfect! The breakfast was perfect with soft music, candlelite, and beautiful table settings. The food was wonderful.
I hated to leave this morning and began checking my calendar on when to return. My friends have been called and they are eager to visit this wonderful Bed and Breakfast!
For a wonderful and worthwhile B & B, Hampton Terrace is the the only place to go. I loved every minute at this enduring inn and will make it part of my life for years to come.

Hampton Terrace provided us with the perfect ingredients for a weekend get away from the city. Immediate and genuine welcome, clean and beautiful ambience, and quite simply everything my boyfriend and i were looking and hoping for. The bed in the room we stayed in (in the cottage behind the main house) was quite possibly one of the most comfortable to date, and knew leaving this morning, that we would indeed someday be back. Thank you again to all for making this such a lovely, refreshing, and cozy escape from our naturally busy day to day schedules back home.

We were put in the Cottage in back of the main house. While the room was large, the carpeting was stained and torn, curtains should have been washed. There was a dumpster right outside our bedroom window. No ice available. I had to go into the main house, second floor to pick out cubes from an ice tray. The porch of the main house would have been nice to use, if it were less cluttered and cleaned.

Of course, we are also disappointed that someone would complain in this forum, and not to us first. Let's start by pointing out that we do not assign rooms to people...these guests chose this room, and they stayed at our mid-week discount...about 50% less than the weekend rate. Significantly, there has not been a single complaint about this room from the dozens of couples who paid $100/night more this past summer! As a matter of fact, one of our best reviews from this summer, "Wonderful B&B in Lenox" stayed in this very room. We are sorry that the carriage house refrigerator ran out of ice trays. Had this guest pointed it out to us, we would have filled an ice bucket. There is a dumpster in the back corner of the yard. We keep this window curtained to block the view. We really hope that everyone here has a great time...but we know we cannot please every one.
