“Nice dining”

We had a very pleasant dinner recently at this restaurant. The duck
entree was good and the special - tilapia - was excellent. Good
service and location make this place a good destination.

“Pleasant Location, Ok Food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

I enjoyed dining outdoors at Rumplestiltzkin's. Was a pleasant atmosphere outside by the flowers, though one yellow jacket was pestering me. The waitress was good, although there was another waitress nearby who was on her first waitressing job and you could tell. The food was good, though not exceptional. My companion had halibut which she said was extremely good, though the accompanying vegetables were nothing special. We went when dinner started and we able to sit without reservations.

We did not have a reservation, and approached the hostess; who informed us the whole outside was booked; even though there were many empty tables. When we said we would be quick as were attending a concert; she reluctantly cleared a table and seated us. The hour or so we were there many tables remained empty. Unfortunately several other tables waited long for service. I ordered the Pinot noir, but the waitress brought Chardonnay without explanation.
My daughter had the spinach salad, which was tasty. My husband had the tapas trio which was mediocre at best; pickled vegetables which were only asparagus; fatty bacon around dates and fried chick peas which were tasty.
The worst, however, were the crab cakes I ordered , which were undercooked and very fishy-tasting. I couldn't manage to eat them and sent them back; after repeated tries to get the waitresses attention. She was apologetic, but did not offer another dish.
All in all; overpriced and very disappointing.

The food and service was excellent. The menu had so many great choices that we had all our meals at the hotel.

“Disappointment at its best”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

We ate here previously and we felt it was worthy of another visit. HUGE error on our part! From the time we walked in, they were disorganized and seemed almost annoyed we were there. A disoriented young man at the front desk checked for our reservation and promptly did nothing with it. We wandered into a empty dining area, attempting to cool down as the temperature inside the restaurant was sweltering. After a few minutes, a waitress hustling by with an order asked if she could help us. When told we had a reservation, she then seated us.

We were not given a wine list or bread and had to ask for both. We then had to ask for the bread to be refreshed and again for more butter...inattentive service.

When we placed our order, our server (Emma) exclaimed that she did not agree with our decision of how the beef should be prepared. Was this her meal or ours? The meal itself was terrible. The Beggars Purse was lifeless-as though someone raised it from the dead simply to sit on a plate on our table..."begging us to eat it". The salmon was bland and underwhelmed us. The beef looked like a Walmart steak or something from Bennigans. The potatoes on the side were runny (almost like soup) and the asparagus was almost completely covered by the potato "soup". The presentation was a disaster only made worse by the actual taste and quality of the food. Very sad to see them slip so badly on service AND food.

Adding to the difficult dining expereince, the owners of the Village Inn were seated within earshot of our table and spoke (loudly!) for over an hour about their plans to sell the place and what the tax ramifications were going to be. They also droned on about several other topics, at a volume that was inappropriate for their guests to be listening to.

Our server basically threw the bill on our table and did not say "thank you" when we said "No thank you" to dessert. To top it off, the comment card in the billfold was already completed and filled out! Huh? Do you read them or not? Apparently not since we had to ask for a fresh one. The owner saw this and said, "Don't pull any punches when you fill it out". We did not and we will not here either. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. WE WILL NOT BE BACK and we do not recommend this at all as a place to drop $104 as we did on a terrible experience.
