“Unique house museum dedicated to artistic couple”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

This is a lesser known museum in a Bauhaus style home and studio of an artistic couple who summered in the area. It has great period details including lots of the couple's art and other paintings they owned by prominent artists.

“Fabulous Tour”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

This house and studio are a very different look at a couple of artists of the Bauhaus school. The guides are very articulate and the tour is quite fascinating. It is really up close and personal and you feel as if the artists are almost with you. Fabulous!

“Spectacular setting and sparkling tour guide”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

Anna Z. , a former school teacher, of Italian/French heritage, led our group of 18 on a tour that appealed to all ages. She offered tremendous historical instruction and aesthetic knowledge while conveying a vibrant sense of the couple who once worked and lived in this beautiful studio/home.

Thank you for reviewing Frelinghuysen Morris House & Studio and mentioning Anna, one of our outstanding guides. Though we are a modernist house with important collections of 20th century art and furnishings, the appeal of the art, architecture, gardens, and historical lifestyle allow the tour to appeal to all ages and interests. Please come again in 2013!

“Not your "Colonial" Berkshires”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

A pre mid-century modern house that once belonged to the Freylinghuysen and Morris couple. both were modern artists and she sang at the Metropolitan Opera. Beautiful grounds adjacent to Tanglewood, with Yoga on Thursday AM. On entering the house, you feel as if you're in a Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers movie. Marble floors and winding stairway. In addition to the couple's art work, including wall murals, there are paintings by Picasso, Miro and Klee. A fabulous docent brought it all to life. A little bit of a woodland walk from the property entrance to the house, or they will drive you in a golf cart. I loved it!!!

Thank you for reviewing Frelinghuysen Morris House & Studio. Gentle Yoga on Thursdays will continue in 2013, we're happy to report! Each week our certified instructor picks a different outdoor location and we concentrate on breathing, and guided imagery and emerge refreshed!

“The Remarkable Artistic Legacy of a Remarkable Couple”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

Located right next to Tanglewood on the back side, the Frelinghuysen-Morris House is a tribute to the legacy of Suzy Frelinghuysen and George Morris, a remarkable couple. They were gifted artists and knowledgeable art collectors and patrons. They built their striking art deco house in the 1930's. The design was way ahead of its time, still modernist today. The house and studio is full of their paintings plus cubist work of Picasso, Leger and Gris. The furnishings are the strikingly modern originals. They always have something new. Two summers ago, they featured newly found films of George Morris' trip to Asia in the 1930's - a really audacious journey in those days. Suzy Morris was an operatic soprano and sang widely in the USA and Europe during the late 1940's and early 50's. At the gift shop, there is a recording of her in the lead of Verdi's Masked Ball, opposite the great Jussi Bjoerling (from the New Orleans Opera). The wooded grounds are glorious. From the parking lot to the house is a ten minute walk or they have golf carts to drive you. This house and studio is a wonderful remembrance of a class couple. Not to be missed!

Thank you for taking the time to review Frelinghuysen Morris House & Studio. You make a great observation about the location, right next to Tanglewood on the "back" side. Many of our visitors can just walk over from Tanglewood and take the tour. Once here, it is a 46 acre oasis of calm in the midst of bustling Lenox. We hope you return to see what we have in store this year!
