The ambiance is great, but the food is even better. We ordered a bottle of wine that was one of the best we have ever had. The service was exemplary. We will definitely return.

With few choices open on Tuesday, my wife's birthday, we returned to try Bistro Zinc after not dining there for several years. They appeared to be very short of wait staff and after an unacceptable wait in getting our food there wasn't even a manager to be found. The food itself was good but nothing special. My wife's duck breast was 4 tiny pieces of meat with a thick layer of fat. The bed of Brussels sprouts and bacon consisted of one Brussels sprout that was deconstructed. Our water was never refreshed. One person asked for some bread to have with her mussels. The bread finally came after she was finished eating. In general the good was flavorful but the portions were small and the service was horrible. All this for a premium price. Don't waste your time and go to one the other fine restaurants in the neighborhood. It will be many years before I return

For this trip to the Berkshires. Bistro Zinc was our favorite restaurant. One reviewer out here called the room "kitschy-modern" and I won't quibble about the modern feel, but I think "kitsch" misses the quietly understated elegance of the atmosphere. Table settings are great with beautiful plates and cutlery. Service is excellent and knoledgable. The food is splendid. I recommend the Coq au Vin as a main course and the duck roll confit appetizer. But spying on other tables and sampling several other items I don't think you'd go wrong with the moules, vegetable plate, other vegetables, salads (Crispy goat cheese salad looked especially tempting), pork tenderloins, steak frites, a killer charcuterie, salmon tartare, beef Bourginon pates even the Zinc Special Hamburger. Desserts were tempting and inventive. Wines were well paired flawlessly with the food. Prices are pretty high, but this restaurant delivers on the promise created by the tariff. For most folks, this would be a special occassion or "night on the town" kind of restaurant, though lunch is obviously less expensive than dinner. And of course, you are dining in the center of charming Lenox, Mass in the iconic Berkshires. If we get back to the Berkshires, we willl dine at Bistro Zinc again.

We loved the feel and decoration of the restaurant. I can see that the tables being so close together might have been a problem, but the people next to us left soon after we arrived. The service was just right and not too rushed. We felt that we were looked after well and the food was delicious. There was a good wine selection. We would go back again if in the area.

Make reservations, especially if you'd like to dine after, say 6:30. We made ours weeks in advance, but found ourselves in an empty restaurant. The usually busy bar was also very quiet. Decor is kitschy-modern and spare, but not stark. Seating was adequately comfortable,
I ordered some new age martini, and received a delicious but noticeably small drink. Had the waiter ever returned, he may have gotten an order for another round, but he disappeared for about 20 minutes.
Our moules appetizer was sensational. We could have ended there, but went on to order coq au vin, which was disappointingly greasy and unappetizing. Can't remember what else we ordered, but it was well prepared.
The waiter then disappeared for over 1/2 hour, leaving us to abandon any thought of dessert or coffee and stare at our plates, Had we not felt obligated to pay, we would have left. It is never more irritating than when a waiter disappears at the end of the meal.
