Strange cooking style. Bolognese w/o meat, garlic onion. Bone marrow was to intensify flavor. Of what? Campbell soup sauce? Appetiser:ground lamb neck fritter stlye w/ a radish salad. Dry, dry w/ no sauce of any kind. Still, somethings around us were fragrant w/ spices. No one complaining. May give it another shot since the Berkshires have very few restaurants to recommend.

I had great expectations when Nudel opened, looking forward to a creative culinary experience. I have dined at Nudel several times. The first time was phenomenal; however, since then I have been very disappointed, being served bland and unattractive food (puree of artichoke has no flavor and is a most unappetizing color). But my greatest disappointment is the chef's inflexibility. There are many better choices in Lenox and in the surrounding towns.

It's a small -- make that tiny -- restaurant, so a line starts to form at 5:15 before they are offically open for dinner at 5:30 p.m. Unfortunately, they don't take reservations.

By 5:32 all 24 seats are taken, and then you have to wait at least an hour before you will be able to be seated. It's that good, that they get that crowded that fast.
Outstanding sourdough toast, buttercup squash soup, butter lettuce salad with a great dressing, "beet" tartare, penne pasta with freshly roasted tomatoes, and panne cotta with concord grape for dessert.
YUM.
This place is a winner. Surprisingly inexpensive for how very very very good the food is. I think he could easily raise his prices from $10 for his small plates to $15 without a problem.

If he could, he ought to buy the store next door and expand. There would still be a line waiting out the door of people wanting to get in, as this restauant with its delicious food is a gem:)

We have eaten here a number of times, and always been very pleased. Great attention to detail in all the dishes - pastas cooked perfectly, service well-timed, imaginative, seasonal cuisine, good service. My concern is that their success (positive writeup in the NYT etc.) is a mixed blessing - it is almost impossible to get a table now for dinner. The only reliable way is to get in line before they open, sign up for a table, then go get a drink elsewhere for awhile until they call you. I understand why a lot of small restaurants have a no-reservation policy, but it becomes a major obstacle to diners; I have already decided several times not even to bother trying to get in. My advice is to go for a late (after2:30) lunch, or go early or late early in the week. Worth the trouble, though.
