Nudel is out of this world. My boyfriend and I had a casual dinner there on a short trip to the Berkshires. We've lived in NYC for the past 6 years, and he's a chef, so we've had our share of good meals. Our dinner at Nudel was one of the best meals we've had in the past two or three years. We had the seven course tasting menu (amazing smells coming out of the kitchen wouldn't let us try anything less) and sat at the dinning bar facing the open kitchen so we could gawk. Plate after plate, we put the first bite in our mouths and then stared at each other bug-eyed. Incredible. I won't try to explain each dish; I doubt they sever anything that's not delicious. My only gripe is that the portion sizes were too big for a tasting, but that's slightly my fault for being a glutton. Go soon and go often. I hope the chef-owner starts charging more per plate soon, because at current prices and quality of the food, Nudel is a steal. The wait staff and the chef are really friendly and calm, also a plus. Everyone else who was eating dinner was having the same excited reactions to the amazing food as we were.

This new (Fall of 09) restaurant is refreshingly creative and imaginative, and will dazzle you with a completely new and delicious menu every time that choose to visit. Having eaten there over a half dozen times ourselves we eagerly look forward to each visit with an air of nearly tense anticipation, never be certain as to what our choices might be for that meal. With a long list of very different choices on the menu we have not yet been disappointed. Bravo to the owner/chef for bringing his top notch cooking and planning skills to the heart of Lenox in our lovely Berkshires. For those looking for some coleslaw with a pickle or two are destined for disappointment. For those with a refined tast bud, you will be so very pleased.
As of our most recent visit, a wine (and beer) list has been added to the menu, and we must say that it was disappointing. Hopefully, a broader and more varied assortment will await us for our future meals.

My husband and I stumbled upon NUDEL in early November, which I believe is when it opened. We were intrigued by the eclectic menu and went in to ask about some dietary restrictions I must deal with. The restaurant was bustling and practically full on a Wednesday evening, but we were greeted very warmly and we immediately liked the easy-going hospitality. Since the only room was at the bar, we took a seat, which turned out to be a lucky thing!

The owner/chef, Bjorn, works in an open kitchen and his complicated and skilled movements at the range amazed us. The menu changes daily and features seasonal, regional, and "highly ethical" (his words) local ingredients. He often cooks with the under-utilized cuts of meat and meat products that are so shamefully wasted and his trips to local farms in the morning dictate the day's menu. On the evening we dined there, the menu featured four tempting pasta dishes (my husband had the one with pheasant), several meat dishes such as beef heart or liver (there were others), various vegetable dishes, and a mackerel and bluefish salad (which I loved). So much more...
Prices are kept down and you can order one or several dishes, mixing and adding as you dine--very low-key and well-priced. The wines by the glass were not terribly exciting and rather expensive, but we were having such a wonderful time that we stayed put at the bar--over wine!-- even after we'd finished our meal.

The staff was especially accommodating to my lactose intolerance (plus I don't eat meat other than fish), but "the girlfriend" (as she called herself) went out of her way to talk with Bjorn (who was also very helpful) about my "issues." I was grateful for their respectful, non-judgmental assistance--a rare thing it seems.

I could use a bit more "plate appeal"--an awful lot to ask for given the dance the chef performs by himself!--but I would recommend this new place above all others in Lenox.
The food is very exciting and imaginative, tastes great, and serves a greater purpose in that the owner has a desire to keep prices down while he creatively makes the most of great local fresh ingredients.
We really respect his high standards! Fun, first class dining and great ambience!
