We'll be heading back to Alta because the majority of the dishes there have been very good, and the service and atmosphere are excellent.

On our last stop we had the gazpacho ($6) which was slightly chunky (I prefer that to strained), fresh and flavorful.

The Pork Tenderloins ($24) were excellent. They were served with a very interesting Dijon mustard whipped cream that blended perfectly with the pork. A very light and airy taste of spicy mustard.

The downside was the Diver Scallops ($27) that were almost tasteless. None of the sweet fresh scallop taste you'd expect from a good dish. I also thought $27 was overpriced for 4 medium sized scallops. The accompanying vegetables were lightly sauteed and excellent.

They have an excellent wine selection at fair prices.

We've eaten here before and all dishes were really good, so I'd recommend a visit and just stay away from the scallops.

A wonderful atmosphere....Wonderful and attentive service...and excellent food! My friend and I could not have been more pleased with our lunch experience at Alta. My new favorite restaurant in the Berkshires!

The food here has been "solid": fresh, hot, sometimes innovative, but not the best food in the area. The staff are very, very pleasant, friendly, and attentive: they get it from their manager, Arelia (?), who seems able to remember people who've only been to Alta once before. He is energetic, helpful with wine issues, and systematic about checking on how you like things. The menu is reasonably sized, and has not disappointed us so far on fundamentals. The bar scene can be very pleasant (with "mature" diners and drinkers, not kids). Porch, on Church Street, is very pleasant spot (though that street has traffic on weekend nights). If you are nearby, might be worth stopping there when you're hungry or thirsty.

I have consistently found the food, its presentation and atmosphere to be of exceptional quality. The staff seems intelligent, helpful and (not terribly common these days) pleasant and friendly. Honestly? What more could one want?

As spoiled New Yorkers, we are used to good quality restaurants and are often disappointed when we travel. We weren't at Alta. From the elegant and homey front porch venue to the top notch appetizers and entrees, you won't go wrong.
They were also very accommodating of our need for vegan options. Finally the owner came over and was very vested in us having a good experience. His interest is the reason, no doubt, why this place is such a success.
