Serene, exquisite, refined and cultured. What a wonderful way to spend an evening! In a world of instant gratification, vapid Facebook snippets, Twitter burps -- this is a classy, elegant piece of Americana.

Saw show at end of August. The grounds were beautiful. The parking was easy and free. It was a decent walk into the grounds though. Lots of families on the lawn spread out with picnics/ tailgate style. We had seats inside and glad that we did. However, I can see the attraction of being outside . Lots of lawn and can hear just fine out there. However, not a bad seat inside. The view from the guest house looking down over the water was fabulous as we walked the grounds before the concert. Great time. Everyone should have this on their list to do at least once

Tanglewood is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) but also features the Boson Pops, The Tanglewood Symphony, and a variety of guest artists. Over the course of the summer there is a performance to satisfy almost every taste in music. In early August,Tanglewood on Parade features all three major orchestras with a variety of music culminating with the 1812 Overture complete with cannons and firewiorks.

The space is large (about 500 acres) with music venues spread throughout. There is considerable walking from some venues to others. There are ample rest areas, restrooms, informal dining, and lots of picnic space. I am particularly impressed with the way the local authorities handle the traffic at the end of major concerts. They close the roads around the site to all but exiting traffic. It's a pleasure to be able to exit so easily.

Tanglewood has become one of our favorite places in the east. We look forward to our annual visit. We are certain that it will become one of yours.

I hesitate writing this since I'd hate for Tanglewood to be more crowded. However, if you haven't been, it is definitely worth the trip, whether you drive 15 miles or 3 hours.
The grounds are beautiful, idyllic almost. The music is nothing short of perfect, whether you're there for a classical concert or a more (less frequent) popular music concert.

Go, purchase tickets for either the lawn or the shed and have your perfect picnic, whether it's purchased, home made or a combination - on the lawn with candles, tablecloths or blankets or on your lap. Stroll the grounds. Watch the people. Enjoy the colors. Listen to the sounds and the music...oh yes, the music! Just wonderful, all of it. If you have time, drive to neighboring Stockbridge, Lenox or Great Barrington. Visit some of the many local attractions such as the Norman Rockwell Museum. But, above all, plan your menu, organize your picnic and just go...next summer, to one of the most perfect places to enjoy beautiful music!

I almost forgot I was in the homeland of the puritans and instead at some winery in California. It's been perhaps more than 25 years since I've seen a place that allows people to bring their own food and beverages (of all description) and consume them gracefully and respectfully - all the while leaving them alone to enjoy responsibly. Security was present, but not ever present. If you don't bring your own food/drink, prices are fair but not cheap - but there are many options and all of it was good.
