“Sightseeing in the Berkshires”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013

If you haven't visited The Mount in Lenox MA, it would be worth your while if you are in the area. Edith Wharton was an exceptional woman, a prolific writer and humanitarian. The Mount is her design. Those involved in its restoration are to be commended for the detailed work that has been done and is continuing to be done both with the building itself and the gardens.

“Wonderful”

We loved it! We had excellent well informed tours of the house and garden by Grace and learned a lot more about Edith Wharton.

“Disappointing stopover due to early closing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

We were looking forward to visiting this location which is open until 5 pm. When we arrived at 4:10, the entrance sign indicated that they were open and so we walked approximately 1/4 mile down to the house only to find the door to be locked. When I knocked on the door, one of the individuals working at this site opened the door but told us that they were not taking any more visitors since the last tour had already started. If this is the case, why not indicate that you are closed at 4 pm when the last tour starts? Very frustrating and aggravating since we went out of our way to visit this site.

“A worthwhile visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

Can't say I am a Wharton fan but the visit to the mount was valuable to me as an example of what appealed to those privileged to reside in Lenox at that time. The gardens are again wonderfully maintained, our guide was well informed and the entire experience on a beautiful day worthwhile.

“Surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

We didn't quite know what to expect but ended up spending almost three hours there. Took the tour and went throughout the house. Nice to learn about the life experience at those times and about the Edith Wharton. Worth the visit.
