“An Interesting Stop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

The Mount was the home of Edith Wharton. From a personal standpoint, I found it interesting but not memorable. The tour guide was very informative and gave lots of insight into the Wharton's background and family history. She pointed out some interesting details on the construction of the home and some of its unusual features. The venue is interesting and worth a few hours.

“Didn't see a ghost, but...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

it was very interesting to see how people lived back in the early 1900's. We went on a ghost tour and the tour guide was very informative. Interesting points of interest on the estate--a pet cemetery, a room of magic, etc. Fun place to visit--wish we encountered someone from the past....

“Really cool property -- tour was fairly expensive, but very informative”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

If you're interested in historic properties, or the lives of famous writers -- this is a place you must see.

The house itself is gorgeous and grand -- each of the rooms has been taken over by a different current-day interior designer, which is neat to see, but personally I found it somewhat distracting. Some rooms look authentic to what Edith Wharton would have had them like, others looked like a designer was showcasing their skills.

Nevertheless, we love properties like this and had a great time learning about their lives and the house itself. It was also so nice to have a live tour guide showing us around -- so many of these homes are now doing self-guided audio tours which, in my opinion, are never as good as a person -- they always have juicy tidbits about what went on there that didn't make it to the official recording! : )

Gardens are also lovely and worth taking a stroll through, we unfortunately missed the formal garden tour. Excited to see the stables once the renovation is complete!

“superb”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

We have read Edith Wharton books and like her style, so we were very pleased to learn more about her. The guided tour was very good and then we were allowed to wander by ourselves. There was lots of interesting history about Edith and her husband. The gardens were pleasant and the was a simple rstaurant on the terrace with delightful staff who could not do enough for us. A superb place to visit.

“A Visit To The Mount”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013

After hearing about The Mount, we decided to check it out. We had stopped here way back before it had been restored to it's formed glory. As we did not enter the building, we will comment on it's exterior appearance and grounds. You park quite a walking distance from the main house. The walk is scenic through woods and pastures and past the stables which are still in need of restoration. Throughout the grounds are various examples of modern art, the coolest piece was of a giant paper clip bent in half. Anyway, we finally arrive at the mansion and I am happy to report it is in great shape. The gardens in the rear and along the approach path are very attractive also. All in all, I give this attraction, 4 stars based on what I was able to experience without going side.
