“Lovely comfortable and relaxing stop”

Booked our room last thing on internet on our tour of New England. Beautiful driveway to the Inn, friendly hosts and really comfortable living room where wine and cheese are served at 5pm in the evening so you can meet other guests and chat with the owners. I wasn't sure about this bit but really enjoyed it. DVD's you can borrow if you want to chill in the beautiful room with gas fire. We stayed in room 5. No bath but nice shower and very comfortable. No food in the evening but breakfast.

Our first trip to the US and The Berkshires in particular and it didn't disappoint. The Hancock Shaker village we hoped would be good and found it fantastic; likewise the autumn coloours - simply stunning. So the Berkshires lived up to all our expectations; but Applegate surpassed them. It was outstanding in all the usual respects as noted above - but Len and Gloria's 'cheese and Wine' early every evening, where hosts and guests meet and chat was an inspiration - a real eye-opener and we wouldn't have missed it for the world. Verdict: if you're going to the Berkshires - go to Applegate: a wonderful, wonderful experience

From the intial turn into the beautiful grounds to the welcoming witch at the front door, the Applegate in is a true treat. The food is beyond fantastic, the rooms very comfortable with comfy beds, and the living areas are inviting. Gloria and Len are helpful without being intrusive. They gave us great tips on eating and sight-seeing, and hosted everyone for wine and cheese in the evening. Our experience was first-class.

The only stop on our honeymoon that made us feel special! lots of great little touches, from recommendations of and directions to local restaurants to a rubber ducky for the bath! lots of guide books and local interest books, brandy in the room, characterful decor. A/C for summer, charming stove/fire for winter.Huge communal living room with piano, roaring fire fore winter, sweets fruit and games. Pantry with fridge, microwave, tea and coffee facilities, free soda's and popcorn! outside pool and gardens which we didn't get time to explore. best nights sleep in the most comfy bed (what ARE this sheets made of- so snuggly!!! I want some!). breakfast homemade, we had poached pears, homemade fresh blueberry muffin tops... and a buffet (wish I'd had room for the yummy looking cheese souffle). Hosts were charming and discrete. In their office they sell products to support local artisans- be sure to have a look. Would come back just to stay with them- in fact I could have moved in! Area is beautiful and people lovely. Highly recommend.

People are lovely and the Inn is very hospitable. Rooms are pleasant. Odd assortment of lovely appointments and cheap decorations like dimestire philodenrons in plastic pots with leaves dropping or yellowing . Phone missing from wall and old hardware still there. Fireplace did not work. Sitting room very nice but this Inn was done about 10 years ago and needs some attentin. Getting a tad rundown. Breakfast was a failed attempt at gourmet. Why so critical when everone was lovely? The price! You can stay at a prime hotl there for this. They either need to update things or make the price congruent with the offering. Don'tget me wring. It is nice but misses the mark on the luxury claim.

My wife and I enjoy the ambience of B and B's and the Applegate is one of the best we have stayed at. The innkeepers, Gloria and Len, are friendly, helpful and knowledgable about all the activities in and around the Berkshires. The B and B is beautifully kept and features rooms with a view, a lovely garden and, for those warm days, a swimming pool. The breakfasts are delicious. My wife has several food allergies, so the cook made special dishes to acommodate her needs. If you are going to the Berkshires, you could not do better than to stay here -- it's also about 15 minutes from just about everything and Len can recommend shortcuts.

You can't ask for a more wonderful country inn in the Berkshires than the Applegate Inn. The Inn is well appointed and beautiful, and the surrounding grounds add to the sense of elegance and charm. The breakfasts are epic and every bit as good as other reviewers have noted. The fruit and homemade cookies available throughout the day were a very nice touch. The wine and cheese served in the late afternoons added to the sense of being pampered, as did the cognac and chocolates provided at the end of the evenings.

Gloria and Len (and their very helpful staff) provided great suggestions on how to enjoy the area, from visits to Tanglewood and the many other music, dance, arts, history and culture in the region, as well as hiking trails and scenic vistas. Remarkably, because of the central location of the Inn, all of these attractions are available within a short drive.

We look forward to coming back to this very special place.
