On a clear day the view is breath taken . We went on Memorial Day and there was still snow at the summit .. To bad the top of the monument is closed for repairs. But still it was beautiful .

We came in from Route 2. This is a 6.5 mile drive on a winding mountain road. There is a couple miles of bad road with pot holes and minor washouts. After that the road is much better so don't turn around! The view from the top is beautiful. It was 13 degrees cooler at the top than it was in town, so be prepared. We were cold and didn't stay long up there. There is a $3 parking fee but no admission fee to the park. The tower is closed until 'next summer' I think for maintenance. The views are great on a clear day.

We took a short hike to the top, total 6 miles. The trail maps you can find online are good indicators of the hike. It was late May and there had been snow a few days before so lots of water on trails, but trails are well maintained. The view was great that day. We would have gone back but the rain returned.

Highest point in MA, and you could drive up it. They have a nice place to eat on top and climbing the tower is worth the trip for the view. The state now charges to park but I would rather hike it anyway. All of the trails are usually in good shape and have great views.
