We cam here to checkout the place. We had heard from others that it was worth a trip, especially off season. As it turned out, we were practically the only ones there. Unfortunately, the house itself doesn't open until May 23 so we had to settle for walking around the extensive grounds. The views here are stunning, and the grounds are carefully maintained. From the hill top location of the castle like edifice, on a clear day, as ours was, one can see for ever. The marshes and the beaches that surround the castle hill provide a very suggestive backdrop to a great panorama. My wife commented that we ought to have gotten married here. At the gate you pay a $5 dollars charge for parking, I am sure that there is a charge to visit the castle too, but since it was closed we didn't inquire. We will definitely be back here soon to see the rest of the castle ( we live only about 50 miles away.)

I visited on April 30, 2013. It was a beautiful Spring day and I knew I could get some great pictures without encountering many visitors. I got my wish because there was no one there, except employees. The views from Castle Hill are just incredible. The mansion is located at the top of the hill in the midst of a huge park with vistas of the Atlantic, neighboring islands and salt marshes. There are trails and a 1/2 mile long, 100 foot wide rolling lawn called "The Grand Allee'", that runs from from the "The Great House" to Steep Hill Beach. The Sunken Rose and Italian Gardens are part of the landscape that surround the house. They look like ancient ruins you would see in Europe. While walking the trails, I saw many turkeys and a Bald Eagle. Castle Hill is open year round to visitors. Try to go during the week, when you'll encounter less visitors. Check ahead, as the house and yard are often rented for private functions, which limits accessibility to parking and the house itself. Admission yesterday was $5.00. Per car. It is $8.00 per car on the weekends. House and Landscape tours start on May 23rd, for an extra fee. If you're in or around the Cape Ann area don't miss this beautiful spot of New England.

What is better than an American Castle on beautiful green, rolling hills that overlook the ocean?! Wow. You can even see whales breaching at times. Ammmmmaaaaazing. Bring your kids!

This is a summer home built by the founder of Crane fixtures for his wife. The home is located on a huge expanse of land that includes much shoreline and hilly trails. The home and landscape were designed together, to provide unique vistas for the residents, while hiding the "less desirable" elements such as the guest houses and access road. If you ever wondered how much money you can make in the toilet and sink fixtures business, go here. The "castle" is huge, decorated in the period, has secret passageways, and good tours. There is an inn on the property that makes a good target for spending the night and/or dinner.

Great place for all ages - toddlers, HS, college students and more, to enjoy music and the beautiful location. Bring a picnic and get there early for parking.
