“A gem in a gorgeous setting”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

This is one of my favorite places to visit in New England. The grounds are spectacular . The grand alee is very dramatic and has an amazing view of the ocean. After exploring the grounds and gardens you can take a beautiful walk from the house , down the grand alle to the beach. It is a longer and more difficult walk than it appears because the last bit is walking over sand dunes to the ocean. A really fun day is to explore the house and grounds in the morning and then spend the afternoon at Crane's Beach. On the way home be sure to stop at Goodale Farm and pick up some peaches. If you want to really end the day right, drive to Farnum's in Essex and order fresh fried scallops..

My sister-in-law had her wedding there - it was lovely - I'm not sure who catered the event but the location was perfect

“Events with a flare”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

This is a place to have your event. It is both classic and New England all wrapped up in one. The rolling yards are beautiful. The rooms big enough for a party but small enough to have people mingle. Wonderful resource on the North Shore.

“A North Shore landmark”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Gorgeous sweeping views of Crane's Beach. Mansion was built by Crane (of Crane bathroom fixtures) as a gift for his wife. Story has it was the 2nd one built for her, as a gift, as she didn't like the 1st and he tore that one down to replace it with this. Story told to me by a local but haven't corroborated it. A 1/2 mile long 'grand allee' to the ocean, bordered by tall evergreens and classical statuary is breathtaking. The home can be rented for weddings, receptions, parties, etc.
