As one of the docents for the St. Francis tours, I wanted to clarify a few things I read above. The President and Jackie Bouvier were NOT married at St. Francis, as they were married at the church of the bride in Newport, RI. However, Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzeneggar were married there. Also Joe Kennedy Sr.'s funeral was held there, Patrick Kennedy was baptized there and the funeral of Eunice Shriver was held there.
Nor is the pew in which the President sat still draped in a flag or the stars and stripes. The flag bunting is only draped on the pew during tours for purposes of identification. The only permanent reminder is the plaque attached to the side of the pew in which Jack Kennedy sat during his presidency.
The tour does convey many little know facts about the first family's attendance and has many wonderful photos of their time spent there. Thus it is well worth 15 minutes or so of your time to visit and to spend a few more minutes in the gift shop.
