Since we're on vacation and today is my husband's birthday, we decided to celebrate at the Roadhouse. We ate at the Black Cat last night and enjoyed it and the waitress suggested we try this place since they're owned by the same person.

The drinks were good and the food was excellent. My husband had the filet and I had the plank salmon. Our side dishes were also very good. For dessert we had the chocolate pastry based on the recommendation of the busboy (yes, the busboy) and it too was very good.

The only thing keeping this from being a perfect 10 was the waitress. She either had too many tables or wasn't organized. She wasn't friendly or attentive. After she took our order she disappeared. When we were through eating, the busboy came over to remove our plates and we asked him to tell her we were ready for dessert and coffee. All of a sudden she re-appeared to take our order.

The service was the only downside of the evening (but three cheers for a great busboy!) and if we were locals, we would make a point of eating here on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, we were unable to get a reservation in the main restaurant; but, were offered a table in the Bistro. We were told that there was live music and a singer, doing mostly Sinatra tunes. WOW! The live music was very loud jazz in a small room - quite impossible to talk, especially across a round table for six. Conversation with the person next to you was possible.

After the first set, the jazz was slowly replaced by the singer and the volume was significantly lower - conversation across the table was possible; but, it was a lot of work. A great venue for music and cocktails; but, not a great one for a nice dining experience with friends.

Now, on the the food...

Appetizers were shared by the table and consisted of scallops wrapped in applewood smoked bacon, which were totally wonderful - the scallops were done perfectly and the bacon just enhanced the flavors; and, a calamari dish that was exquisite and unlike any I have every had - a gigantic bowl of spicy, marinara-like sauce with wonderfully tender squid abounding - a keeper!

Sweet Italian Sausage With Penne was good, although I would have preferred a bit more sausage and the penne done a bit less al dente - this dish may have suffered a bit under a heat lamp, which is a killer for pasta.

Lobster Bolognese was a hit; and, unlike the penne, the bucatini was done to perfection - a perfect bed for some succulent lobster meat.

Broiled Scrod was good; but could have used another minute to be a bit firmer and not quite so watery.

Osso Bucco was a masterpiece - enough said.

There were a couple of other dishes around the table that were all very good as well. In short, from strictly a food perspective, this was well worth the trip and I will definitely return - just in the main restaurant, though...

Great service with Jason our waiter. He went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Food was very good. Tuesday jazz was great bit way too loud. Cannot beat free valet. Overall, excellent.

The only good thing I can say about this restaurant is that the atmosphere is nice. Food is average, but way, way overpriced and service is mediocre. We will leave this one out of our next trip....

The clam chowder was out of this world! And the pizzas were hearty and huge! Definitely a place to try if you are in Hyannis!!!
