Owner description: The John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum Foundation preserves and promotes the legacy of President Kennedy, his family, and their deep connection to Cape Cod. John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum is a multimedia exhibit designed to open a window on the days JFK spent on Cape Cod; days relaxing with family, days as President of the United Sates when the Cape provided a time to relax and be reinvigorated and days spent sailing on the ocean to which he was so constantly drawn. The Museum's exhibits features videos and photographs spanning the years 1934 to 1963 and is arranged in thematic groupings to reflect John F. Kennedy, his family, his friends and the Cape Cod he so dearly loved. In addition to photography, a video narrated by Walter Cronkite depicts the president's experiences on the Cape. Several themed areas include charged oral histories of JFK's friends.

This is the home of the Kennedys growing up and to get a feel for the local flavor and this charming museum is a must see when you are here on Main Street Hyannis. I have loved the Kennedys since my early teens and love this hometown museum. I feel you get to see things in this hometown museum you do not get to see anywhere else. I especially loved seeing the beautiful oil painting of John Kennedy Jr. A very moving tribute to their local son,
John F Kennedy. I think you will be pleased to see this local museum!

We were told on entry that we should allow 1 hour for viewing. Even though we usually spend quite some time in museums and don't just rush through - we were through this museum in much less than an hour. The basement exhibitions were wasted on us as they didn't seem to be anything to do with Kennedy, but a baseball/sports exhibition, which we weren't interested in. So really it was just one floor of a number of rooms with photographs of the Kennedy family and some television screen videos. There was very little memorabilia relating to Kennedy (things that belonged to him etc), just photographs and information that you can see easily on the Internet. We were disappointed, though we don't regret going in. As seniors we didn't have to pay the full 8 dollars. The museum is in a pleasant building with front gardens featuring an attractive statue of Kennedy, right in the middle of the main street of Hyannis. It's worth a visit, but not if you have to go out of your way, or are only visiting Hyannis for that purpose.

I'm not sure if you can call this an actual museum!

It's not much more than a few (small) rooms on the first floor of the house, with some pictures of JF Kennedy and his family in Hyannis. They also show a short film on DVD which contains no information except the fact that they state that JFK was a world leader.

This is an overly expensive tourist trap that should be avoided.

OK This isn't the Smithsonian. It is, however, a place where you get to see a side of JFK that you never get to see elsewhere. I am all about spots like this. The Kennedys were a big part of this area and this tour gives you some insight that you won't get elsewhere. Worth a visit!

OK, it's not a polished Presidential Museum, but it does tell a story of John Kennedy's life and times while spending time at his family summer home in Hyannis. It could and probably should represent his presidency and legacy in a more professional and dignified manner. So do not set your hopes high. On the other hand, there are some wonderful photos of JFK and his family. It was all right but not a representation of JFK that we would expect.
