This is a beautiful property near Chatham. We are new to the East Coast and our family (2 adults, 2 teenagers) spent three days over Labor Day 2011 in a garden view room. The room was a fairly average size and the bathroom was a bit outdated, particularly the bathtub fixtures. For the price you pay, you'd expect better. The mini bar has great prices though so the kids got to enjoy some of the treats which we normally make "off limits". The service is great, particularly in helping to set up a dvd player and supply us with dvds. They had nightly turn down service and left us chocolate from a local candy store. We did notice in the mornings particularly,we could hear people walking in the room above us.

The pool is outstanding, particularly the lounge chairs. We had drinks and lunch out at the pool each day and they were very attentive to our needs. One afternoon, a sharp wind knocked down an umbrella behind us and it glanced off my son. They were very apologetic, comped our drinks and sent a nice package of candies to the room for my son to enjoy. The food at 128 Atlantic was great and the service there was professional. Overall, you are paying a lot for a small, intimate, Cape Cod experience, and except for the need for a bathroom upgrade, it is worth the price.

We have been to the Wequasset many times, since we live near-by. We dine here in season and out, at all the venues, and attend special events, including Summer Jazz Nights. We also have many friends who have stayed at the resort... and the reviews are always the same. The setting is wonderful, overlooking Pleasant Bay, where you can take the launch to "the outer beach" or rent a boat to sail or cruise the waters on your own. The beach level areas are spectacular with a beautiful pool, dining areas, wonderful bar, cabanas, etc. But the thing that stands out is the service. These are well trained personnel there to serve you and be sure you are happy. From the childrens' program to the outdoor "dive-in" movie nights, everything is over the top. Somehow, families enjoying a vacation don't prevent couples romancing or friends enjoying a chat at the bar, from having a great experience. This all comes at a price, however. It is very high end. If you can afford it, you most likely will think it's worth it.

Having stayed at the Chatham Bars Inn (CBI) in the past, we decided to stay at Wequasset (W) this year, mostly because it was ranked in Travel & Leisure's worlds top 500 hotels this year. Not sure how Travel & Leisure does its rankings, but this is not one of the worlds top 500 hotels.

The resort itself is underwhelming. CBI sits on a much prettier piece of property with much better views and access to Chatham (walking). W's lobby is a old beat up house vs. CBI's lobby is beautiful with magnificent views and a place to have a cup of coffee or relax. Rooms at W are just ok. Had we known, we would have booked one of the new rooms in 4 new buildings. There is a significant difference between those rooms and what we had. Our room was fine, but old and over $800 per night. Very motel like rooms and buildings, unless you stay in one of the new buildings. Hallways are beatup and dimly lit.

Pool area is nice enough. THERE IS NO BEACH AT W. Beach at CBI isn't anything great either, but W really doesn't have a beach that you would actually sit or play with the kids on. This is very much a pool resort. Pool is also tough for small kids. CBI's has a no steps entrance so small kids can play without being held by a parent.

Food was good. Lobster roll at pool restaurant is one of the best we have ever had. Also, what probably ranks W above CBI is the service. It is MUCH better than CBI. Everyone knew our names and we were consistently greated with smiles. Children's center is also a terrific service. Great daily camp and playground. Much better than CBI. Tennis center is also beautiful.

All in all, this is the best you are going to do on the Cape. If you go, spend the extra money and book one of the rooms in the new buildings.

Room tip: Spend the extra money to get a room in the new buildings

Thank you for your balanced feedback regarding your recent visit to Wequassett Resort and Golf Club. I am delighted that our staff was able to provide you with the four-star service levels that the resort is known for. We were pleased to learn that you enjoyed our award-winning Children's Center along with our tennis center.

I am sorry you were disappointed with the resort’s beach, but hope you were able to take advantage of our complimentary boat launch to the Cape Cod National Seashore beach, which offers one of the most beautiful beaches in America.

The resort has enjoyed being named to Travel and Leisure's Top 500 Hotels for the last 4 years. I am disappointed that you felt some aspects of the resort did not leave you with the same impression.

I would welcome the opportunity to personally discuss your recent experience. I may be reached at 508-430-3024 and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you for your valuable feedback regarding our operation.

We absolutely love going to the Wequassett. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and the resort is absolutely beautiful. The restaurant is also the best on the Cape; both dinner and brunch are amazing. My husband and I went to the Wequassett 5 years ago when we got engaged and we went again this summer as our last vacation before the arrival of our first baby. Wonderful place for a romantic weekend or to take the kids (great pool area!)

This was our second visit to the Wequassett and we enjoyed it even more this time. The grounds are spectacular. We stayed in a signature suite that overlooked Round Cove/Pleasant Bay. The view and room were top-notch. The room was very hi-tech and our bellman, Kevin, did a great job of explaining how everything worked, including the at-cost snacks and drinks in the refrigerator. There was also a nice selection of Keurig coffee and tea in the room. The flat screen TV, iPod dock, and fireplace were all great. The room had double sliders that opened to a wonderful deck overlooking the water. We enjoyed cocktails there before dinner and watched the stars later from the wonderfully comfortable chaise lounges.

We ordered room service for breakfast. It was delicious and arrived very quickly. The fruit sampler was especially nice.

We enjoyed both the quieter adults only lap pool and the beachside pool and hot tub. During the day they come around with ice cold watermelon. The pool was open until 11:00 and we had it to ourselves for a night swim. There was a large fire pit to sit around and listen to the band that was playing.

The resort has clay tennis courts, a boat shuttle to the beach, a children's program, jazz nights, and fine dining as well as a more casual poolside grill.

A great experience, just wished we could have stayed longer.
