“WONDERFUL TIME FOR LEAF PEEPING”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

We stayed in a 2BR 2bath on Oct 12-19 2012. We love the Berkshires and visit often, usually at a different resort each time. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not stay in the main building, so to get to the pool, we did have to walk outside, that might be something I would consider next time. For a 2 BR I thought it was small, mostly the living area. But furnishing were clean and comfortable.

Only problem is that the floors are stone tile so you hear the noise from the upper floor, shoes, moving chairs, and rolling luggage, next time we will request the top floor.

We loved the pools, you can swim from the inside to the outside, it was nice and warm and plenty of chairs around the pool. There are 3 hot tubs, we found the 3rd one on our last day.

Jiminy Peak is on the same property with their own resort. We ate at John Harvard Brew Tavern right there and loved the food and people. Also frequent the Great Barrington Brewery, they make their own beer, it can get crowded during the tourist season, but well worth it.

Lots of great sightseeing and shops

We just returned from spending MA school vacation week at Bentley Brook and had a very good experience. To summarize:

Pros
Cleanliness of both the resort and the unit

Heated indoor/outdoor pool. My daughter loved swimming outside in April.

Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Everyone I encountered greeted me with a smile, and the staff at reception were extremely helpful.

Activities. My daughter participated in a few crafts (origami, duct tape wallets, finger painting), and we all enjoyed a campfire one night - they even provided marshmallows and roasting sticks! They also had fitness walks, bingo, a wine and cheese reception, and other crafts. I was surprised at how well attended these activities were; be sure to sign up in advance if you're interested because they fill up.

Cons
For us, as non-skiiers who visited during the shoulder season, the location wasn't ideal. It's at least 20 minutes to get to even the most basic of services (Target, grocery store, etc.). But if we were there to ski, we would have been thrilled to be right in the Jiminy Peak complex with a chair lift right at our door. We used the resort as a base for lots of day trips (Hildene in Manchester, VT; Hyde Park, NY; Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, etc.) and it was fine. We just had to plan in advance; no running out to the store if you forgot something.

Overall, I would definitely stay here again. The only reason for a four-star rating, as opposed to five, is that it's not a luxury resort (nor is it intended to be).

Went here as a long weekend getaway. We did not do any skiing. The people who work there are friendly. Rooms were a nice size and clean. Glad I brought my white noise machine. As the walls are paper thin. You will here every footstep from the rooms above. The beds were sagging pretty bad.. Definitely time for some new matresses. The hot water in the bathrooms got dangerously hot quickly. Those with young kids should be aware. They had a small game room with a ping pong table and air hockey. Everything is at least 15-20 minutes away .. Restaurants or things to do. We still enjoyed our stay, but the quality of the hotel is just above average.

Four of us visited Bentley Brook at Jiminy Peak for a long weekend of skiing and snowboarding. Every single staff member we came across was friendly and very helpful (an experience I cannot say I've had at many New England hotels). They all say hi in the hallways and one worker even walked us to the looker room to make sure we were able to get in to our locker (There were lockers available downstairs for our ski gear, conveniently located steps from the ski lift). We stayed in a spacious 2 bedroom with full kitchen in the main building. We had a great weekend, enjoying the mountain and some of the hotel's activities (muffins and mimosas at noon on Saturdays!) We were able to sit in the adult only hot tub after a long day of skiing and relax before dinner. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a weekend or weeklong getaway.

Room Tip: Rooms in building 23 and 24 are closest to the pool, sauna and main lobby however there are ski lock...

Have stayed at the Bentley Brook a couple of times over the last three years.

Rooms: Each unit that we have stayed in included two bedrooms (one king and the other with two full size beds) with a decent size living room (with pullout bed) and a kitchen. The rooms are nothing fancy but very comfortable and roomy for up eight people. The beds are actually really comfortable.

Ski in / Ski out: On the first floor of the building ski lockers are provided for storage - though they are not big enough for more than just skis and poles - no boots. But not really a big deal. The facilities work pretty well for ski in ski out - just grab your skis from the locker - walk out the door - throw on your skis and you are close to the beginners / learning area.

Food: John Harvards is ok - one of those places where everyone can find something. The food options on the slopes are really lacking - mostly junk food - but that seems to be typical of most places.

We just returned from a 3 night stay at Wyndham BB which is located right at Jiminey Peak Ski Resort. The condo was ski in/out Bldg 26,,fairly quiet but lots of kids running around. Check in is 4PM and they stick to it. Condo was spacious w/ 2bedroom/2 bath..One king room,2 doubles in another and a pull out couch. Kitchen has your basic supplies. All fine. This is not a hotel so no housekeeping daily but you can request towels which are delivered in big sacks left at your door. We had teens with us who were content with the mtn and pool and wi-fi. The place was booked for the week with many families with small children. For non skiers there is not much to do..a trip up to Willimastown is a nice side trip for a couple of hours. As far as food goes, you don't have much choice on site. Christiansen's at the base is fine for apres ski snack and drink. Typical ski lodge food wings, burgers, nachos etc. Not bad. The other restaurant John Harvards is not recommended by this reviewer. Poor quality everything except for our young host who seated us. Skip it. All in all this is a nice resort for families with new skiers. Night skiing is quiet and well lit. The place is lacking in a nice lodge with a view to the slopes and perhaps some musical entertainment for apres ski. We give a big shout out to KEVIN in guest services who came down from Smugglers Cove to lend his people skills and sharp wit to an otherwise grim group at the front desk. Nice easy trip up from LI via Cross Sound Ferry. The mountain itself is perfect for the beginner and young children.

Room Tip: Get a top floor! It can be noisy with the pitter patter of many little feet tearing up the place...

We stayed at the Bentley Brook for the second time this year during the busy President's Week. We rented from the same owner and were pleased with the room. Disappointed we didn't get a mountain view again this year but as they say, no promises. The rooms are spacious and our family of 4 stayed with a family of 2 with no problems. Great place for older kids to walk to the pool and ski areas on their own.
I was really disappointed by the timeshare staff. I was invited, and given a written confirmation, to attend a timeshare presentation and was actually interested, since it's our second year staying and we like their other properties. I rushed around to drop off kids and gave up a morning of skiing only to be told the group was full, and then was given a runaround about how I couldn't go without my spouse (no spouse here, not any of their business.) Very unprofessional and discriminatory behavior and they invited me in the first place. Then I heard they treated other guests similarly, and gave some of them incentives anyway when threatened. So my advice is to stay away from them.
The front office staff is very accommodating, John Harvard's and the Country Store are reasonable and the ski runs are very well groomed and chair lifts well managed. We had some good ski instructors, especially Susan, at the ski school.

Room Tip: try for mountain view, it's nice especially if you have kids to keep an eye on them.
