After taking a late afternoon flight from Chicago to Hartford and a rainy drive to Hadley, we stopped at the Route 9 Diner for an early evening dinner. We spotted the place, while driving to the hotel.
The details: I had a pastrami Reuben Sandwich. It was OK. Not the best I've ever had, but not the worst. The pastrami was cut too thick for my taste, and there was no sauerkraut. It came with a nice portion of fries, the mandatory Reuben pickle and some thousand island dressing on the side for my sandwich. Disappointing.
My wife had a Gyro Plate, served on Pita Bread along with a Greek Salad. It was good.
NOTE: the problem with this review is that we just discovered a place not too far from our house, and the previous week we ordered the exact same things there. And they were DELICIOUS! So, this stop at the Route 9 Diner was a "comparison test" of sorts.
So, if we were in the area again, would we give Route 9 another try? Yes! The place has a great, traditional diner atmosphere; the menu is huge; the prices are right, and; the portions are not skimpy. The service was very good and, looking around at the other tables, everyone was having a very good time!
