Days Inn Great Barrington

While the location of this hotel is hard to beat (it's right downtown), the quality is way below average. We were greeted by an abrupt and almost rude employee. When we went into our room, the odor was so offensive, we had to go to the nearby store and buy some air fresheners and spray the room. It smelled like cat urine. The rooms are very small, but liveable. What I *did* like about it was the pressure of the shower and the shower curtain, the way it bowed out away from the tub.

Having said all that, I *might* stay here again. We met friends who live in Boston (we live in New York and Great Barrington was a half-way meeting place), and our kids got to hang out at the hotel and play video games while we adults walked around downtown. If we didn't have this location, we would not have had the freedom to do that.

Oh, and about the video games...the tv's there don't have hook-ups, so I actually had to go and buy a television to put in the room so our kids could do what they had planned on doing together!

The free breakfast was nice, as the town is so expensive and we were tired of spending money! We ate oatmeal, bagels, english muffins, cereal and juice. The employee on our second day was very sweet and friendly and helpful.

If you stay here, be sure to go to the Organic Sour-dough Brick Oven Pizza Place! It's SOOOO good!

Our favorite local hotel was fully booked so we took a chance on the Days Inn. As noted in other reviews, it is definitely a throw back to the 70's. It is a two story motel with all rooms opening to the parking lots. We were pleasantly surprised by several things. While the rooms were very small and definitely had the least expensive bedding known to mankind they were very clean. When we had a problem opening one of our exterior doors (we had two connecting rooms) we called the front desk and they had someone there to help us in less than one minute.
The morning breakfast area (combined with the check-in/out desk) is very small and the food very basic but for our family of four (kids 10 & 13) it was all that we needed. The front desk staff was very helpful.
The benefit of this motel to us was that it was right in-town. Within a five minute walk we had several family friendly but nice pub-type restaurants to choose from. The front desk person showed us several menus and even called to make the reservations for us. On the walk back to the Days Inn we stopped in at the local hand-made ice cream parlour - delicious and a great way to end the evening. My husband thought the location itself was enough to overcome the outdated motel issues.
The location and the rooms were quiet even though we were there on a fully booked Saturday night in February at the height of the ski season. It is less than ten minutes to Butternut.
As long as you know what you are getting into this motel is convenient, quiet, clean and worth the money.

Spending a night in this hotel, felt like we took a journey back to 1970 during [--], minus the groovy music. I could tell we were in for a treat the moment we pulled up in the car. We got our key in the lobby, and the lady sent us back into our car to drive behind the building to find our room. We were lucky to be able to park right outside of our door. We opened the door to the dim-lit room, and there is was.... a beautiful jacuzzi right next to our bed! I thought for a second that maybe they accidentally rented us one of those "hourly rate" rooms, but then I figured, that they were probably all decked out with the same ammenities. Now, some people would see this jacuzzi as a bonus, but when you think about how many people "bathed" in it since 1970, you get a little turned off. Especially since you know that stuff gets caught in those jets when the water drains...
Anyway, moving on to the bed. There were ciagrette remnants on the floor all around us, and hair, and earring backings, and all sorts of other goodies!! It just felt like Christmas all over again! And can't you always tell how classy a place is when there is no matress cover or sheet covering the box spring?
The bathroom hasn't been updated in about 35 years either. But I'll spare you those details. And two more words to paint the rest of the picture: Wood Paneling.
To top off our stay, there were about 50 drunk teenagers staying in the rooms next to us. All night long they had a Block Party, and were outside drunk and screaming and carrying on. We finally called the front desk, and they did actually take care of it... for about an hour it was quiet, but then, as my luck has it, the party continued. The next morning, they were still partying, as we checked out and drove away... far, far away, back to the future.... never to return to the 1970's again.
Next time we're in Great Barrington, we plan to stay in a MUCH newer hotel.

We just returned from a weekend in Great Barrington. We chose the Days Inn, because it is right on the edge of downtown Gt. Barrington, and we thought with kids, this would be a plus. The room was a generic, smallish, standard issue motel box. A continental breakfast was included. The kids enjoyed the cereal, bagels, juice, etc. The desk/breakfast person followed guests around, wiping and tidying after every move. I presume this was to keep the overcrowded and tiny breakfast area running smoothly. It felt, along with her attitude, unfriendly. When we called to ask about a local tourist attraction, she snapped that she couldn't help us as she was checking someone out. Nothing beyond a perfunctory response in general, and then this uptight unwelcome feeling at breakfast. The room was $120.00 a night.

There is no Internet service and no pool. Kids love pools, and as it rained all weekend, it would have been a nice addition. So, for $120.00, you get a Motel 8 experience, with cereal and coffee.

We won't return.
