The reviews for this new-ish restaurant were so glowing that we had very high expectations. Now admittedly we went on the Fourth of July weekend which was scorching hot and hellishly humid. They don't take reservations for less than six people-we were four but were seated after a brief wait but well with-in the promised time-frame.
The decor is an odd mix of pub/gastronome/back room/coffee shop/outdoor cafe. It looks like they took over a local bar and upped the food quality but not the ambiance.
The server was polite, knew the menu, and brought our drinks quickly. The carafe of warm tap water was a surprise, especially on such a beastly hot day. Upon request a carafe of cold water was brought, without ice. Throughout the meal we had to ask for more ice to be delivered to the table-done quickly and politely, but why have to ask?
The food was, as promised in the reviews, excellent. The feature farm-to-table fare and everything was fresh, properly cooked and well presented on the plate. Throughout the meal however the room in which we were seated became stifling hot. They have no air conditioning and apparently the windows don't open. When it came time for dessert we deserted, paid the bill and walked to the SoCo Creamery for a refreshing ice cream dessert.
The temperature not-withstanding, it might be a nice place to enjoy a meal, I'm just not sure I'd bother.
