OK, so Butternut is not Park City or Killington for that matter, but as a family-oriented, low key, fun family place it is just right. We didn't have the greatest skiing weather, but we were still impressed with the instructors, numerous staff, helpful, friendly attendants and the ability to have fun at a good ski area at a decent price. Great place for beginners and kids especially to learn. There is a terrific snow tubing facility, but it was NOT well regulated: too many people "cutting the lines," shoving and otherwise behaving badly. The tubing are needs supervision!

A nice size resort. Never waited long in a line. Variety of runs from the real easy beginner lift to the wider Cruiser. Great value if you buy a three pack of lift tickets before 12/20. Great value in renting equipment for 2-3 days and keeping it. Then no waiting in line every day. We would go back. Lots of restaurant choices in town. Very helpful staff.

A few days ago Butternut received 1.5" of rain. Then low temps came back and they were able to make snow for the past couple of nights. As a result, skiing the day after Christmas 2013 was pretty decent and included a steady light snow all day. Crowds were basically non-existent, especially on the Overbrook Triple lift, where there are often less crowds and lift lines. Definitely try the Overbrook area.

Butternut has 100% snow making which means they can bounce back after a significant rain event as long as temps are low. The trails are well maintained and marked for difficulty. While it's not the mountains of Vermont, Butternut does provide varied terrain. It's a shorter drive (about two hours from the greater New Haven, CT area). than the closest Vermont mountain, Mt Snow, which is three hours

What sets this ski area apart is the intentional friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. From the parkig lot attendants to the person selling the tickets, to the lift attendants, from the rentall team, to the folks working in the lodges, the staff is outstanding. Prices also set Butternut apart. They are reasonable and include many ways to save money including cheaper tickets for college students during some time periods and active military discounts. Thank you Butternut for honoring those who defend our freedom.

All in all, Butternut is a good value and well run ski area.

I have to say that Buyternut is by far one of the best of the smaller ski areas arou.d. Their staff is so accommodating. They truly make you feel that you are family. Everyone is very helpful and always wear a smile.

The value is unbeatable and they are a shkrt drive from NYC. I can't wait to go back this season again.

Hey everyone..see you soon.
