“Too crowded!”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

We went there on Sunday Feb. 17, 2013. Usually that weekend is considered the busiest weekend for the season. But oh, boy! It was more crowded than I expected! The cafe, the trail, the waiting line, all were filled! It was no fun!
Also about the condition, I think, besides reporting temperature, wind factor is so vital! It would be nice if their web site can show wind index. That day the wind was so strong. With the cold temperature, the top layer of snow was blown off, I was skiing on ice at quite a few spots! Felt like I was skating on arctic tondra!

“good ski resort for day trippers”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

we come up here from the shoreline in Connecticut three or four times a year. It's an easy drive and one of the few decent places you can ski or snowboard that doesn't require staying over in a hotel, although there are plenty around. We drop off the kids and spend the day in the Great Barrington area exploring restaurants and shops, which is another plus. We aren't stuck sitting in an uncomfortable lodge all day

AMAZING adventure from the lesson to the lift! We started on the bunny slope with our first lesson and were all taking the lift and coming down together by the 3rd day. Perfect family ski resort!!

“Great family place, beginner to intermediate skiing”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

Nice place for beginners to learn to ski while others in the family can enjoy intermediate hills. Snowboarding park is popular and there is tubing for everyone in the family! Parking can be tough, due to the mud. Food service could be better.

“Great Deal at $25 during the week”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

Thanks to the Blizzard of 2013 I had another snow day so my husband and I headed to Butternut for our first visit. Although it had rained the day before, the slopes were in reasonably good shape. Butternut provides longer runs than we have in CT, but this is not Vermont skiing which would have meant twice the time on the road. We are both in our early 60s so greens and blues are more our speed. My only complaint is that the Overbrook Triple is not easily accessible from the other lifts at the base as it appears on the trail map. We thought that we could get to it from the top of the Paddy's Double Chair, but you cannot get there without walking across a road through the woods. We ended up having to take off our skis and walked up the hill after "walking" with our skis on became tiring. This part of the mountain has very few skiers and Freewheeler is a nice run.
