We stumbled upon this while looking to rent a house for a week in the Berkshires. The Carriage House (behind the Inn) was available with 2 separate bedrooms and baths, a common living area with a small kitchenette and a very nice deck. This worked perfectly for us as we were travelling with our 2 kids.
The only hesitancy I had in renting this place (and I hate to say this) was that it seamed too low a price for a week in the Berkshires- in July! I suspected that we would find something wrong but we were very pleasantly surprised. The rooms and common area are very tastefully decorated and furnished. It is a very short walk into town from the Inn and we were able to enjoy several nice dinners in Great Barrington's variety of restaurants.

The Innkeepers were very friendly and attentive and our visit was most enjoyable.

From the moment we walked into the Wainwright we were taken back by the beauty of this welcoming Inn. Every detail from the lovely antiques, fabulous collection of ladies hats, window coverings, linens, freshly polished wood carved staircases from hundreds of years ago, the decor was amazing. Our room had a working fireplace, was very large, clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. The chef prepared a different and wonderful breakfast every morning. We loved the InnKeepers, Marja & Robert - what a joy they both were. This was our first visit to this Inn, but will not be our last. We look forward to many travels to the Wainwright Inn for years to come.

My company housed me at The Wainwright Inn for four months. What a wonderful experience!! The Inn is perfectly located to downtown. This worked well for me as I did not have an automobile. The place is spotless, and the rooms are beautiful!! The food is faboulous too. The owners Marja and Robert, and the Chef Darrell welcomed me as part of the family! Thier friendship and hospitality made my stay an experience of a lifetime!! I am grateful! I cannot give a higher recomendation!! There is no other place to stay in The Berkshires!! Christine Reeves

This is the only B&B to stay at in the area, period. My wife and I have stayed at countless B&B’s from Florida to Maine, and the Wainwright Inn stands head and shoulders above them all. The location is ideal: easy to locate and downtown Great Barrington is a five minute walk away. The entire house is immaculate and complete with every amenity. The breakfasts are innovative, incorporating local and seasonal ingredients. The breakfasts also happen to be amazingly good and quite filling! Most importantly, the Innkeeper and her staff strive to make sure every detail is attended to, and they will work with guests to make sure that it is. We cannot recommend it enough!

I spent three nights at the Wainwright Inn and was most impressed with the experience. The room was clean, spacious, bright with an extremely comfortable bed and had a nice private bathroom. Homemade breakfasts were delicious. Everything about the place was terrific! I cannot think of any negative or even neutral comments! It was a fabulous place and I will definitely stay there again and again.

Super great place to stay in the heart of Great Barrington. Close to town and shopping and pubs, we stayed 3-nights and loved every minute. Our 2nd floor room was huge and access to the porch to relax was especially nice.

Lovingly restored and marvelously decorated by the inn keeper, Marja (mar-eee-ah), the Inn is a step back into romantic times. Marja is just charming and she and Daryl cook up fantastic breakfasts.

The carriage house is a terrific place to book for longer stays. It has 2-bedrooms and a kitchenette. I can see staying for a month or more for skiing or summer hiking.

The Inn is immaculately clean, fireplaces are working (a big plus) and the inn keepers are like family. What more could you ask for.

My husband I stayed at the Wainwright Inn for several nights in early October. I highly recommend this inn if you stay in Great Barrington. The location is ideal being only 3 blocks from the center of town. Far enough away to avoid the noise but close enough to walk to everything. There are few options for lodging in the area and some are too far out to enjoy what the town offers. Marja is a wonderful hostess and innkeeper. She keeps the inn spotlessly clean. The rooms are all nice sized and well kept. It was cold in our room at night but the super heavy comforter kept us warm. There is free wi-fi to watch internet tv as there are none in the rooms and little to do in town at night. Sherry and port are available in the main seating area. The common area is small but there is another small one upstairs that offers a tv and video tapes. Breakfast is ala minute (no buffet) with several courses. The inn was full but managed to stay very quiet during our stay. There are other B&B's in the area but many are too far away or way too rustic (i.e, old and musty). It was high season with fall foliage peaking. I thought $200+ a night was a little steep for a full size bed with flat pillows but the Wainwright is by far the best in Great Barrington.
