How a pair of great partners can make a place so special.. In the most simple way.

I love what they are trying to achieve with the location, and hope to see their vision for the location come to life in our next few trips to the area. ... All the good reviews are true. I will not bore you by repeating it, please read on to other guest's excellent reviews. ... This is how America needs to run motels! Outstanding small business with special personal touch <3

What a great place this is. We spent a couple of nights here at the end of May and couldn't have wished for a nicer place to explore the Berkshires from. Claire and Richard are great hosts and really knowledgeable about the local area - important when you want to get the most out of a short stay. Their recommendations for eating and places to visit were top-notch (the Brick House is a must for eating, and the Norman Rockwell Museum a great place to visit).

Breakfast each morning was great and the (local) coffee excellent. We spent a merry couple of hours on the deck early one evening chatting with another guest and sharing wine . . . and compared travelling stories with another couple of Brits one morning. In fact, I think Brits outweighed the "locals" when we were there!

Our bed was the biggest and most comfy on our entire trip and the decor of the whole motel is lovely (obviously Claire's former life in interior design magazines has some benefits!).

All-in-all a highly recommended place to stay - we'll certainly be back.

Lovely little motel! I appreciated everything about it. Claire and Richard were wonderful hosts, ensuring a clean room and a great homemade breakfast every AM. They had great recc's for the surrounding area (I was in town for a wedding from Ohio). The granola is outstanding, as is the vintage fridge in the lobby. Lots of wildlife surrounding the area, we saw a bunch of wild turkeys. There is a fun mountain to climb across the street, and is quite close to stores etc. The decor is just adorable, very clean and modern with some unique touches (like embossed leather keyrings with literary sayings!). This savvy British couple know a thing or two about running a hotel, and they do it all themselves. A+!

This place is warm, friendly, welcoming, clean, funky, cool and the area is just goregous. I found the Briarcliff at Trip Advisor and boy am I glad I did! Clare and Richard are the
Bee's Knees. Breakfast yummy. Sat on the deck and visited with friends for a few hours before we left for home. Loved it. Will be back.

Spent Easter weekend there and thoroughly enjoyed it all. The room was great - had an extra large bathroom due to it being the accessible room and Clare was great - brought us dishes so we could eat our cheese and wine glasses for the wine upon arriving. Great breakfasts and wonderful conversation. All around great place and great people.

Room Tip: Take a hike up neighbouring Monument Mountain - views are stellar.

I stayed at the Briarcliff with one of my closest friends for a long weekend, Friday-Monday. Claire welcomed us at the desk when we checked in and offered us recommendations for local eats and activities. Our room was clean and the beds were comfy, what more could we ask for! DVD players in the TV, functional mini fridge for leftovers, clean towels every day. Breakfast was great too, fresh and delicious scones and breakfast breads, amazing local yogurt and homemade granola, fresh OJ, tea and Barrington Coffee! The traditional motel setup was great since we could just park the car right outside our door and come and go whenever without any worry. The location was perfect as well - right across the street from Monument Mountain for morning hikes, reasonable distance from downtown GB and even Lenox. Thanks, Briarcliff!

We stayed here a few times over the winter while skiing with our kids. The rooms are clean, modern and spare, which we loved. Though the rooms are not large, they are priced well and were exactly what we were looking for. Richard and Clare were very friendly, made a terrific continental breakfast with homemade baked goods and excellent coffee, and cheerfully put up with our kids' antics (including encouraging our kids to sing for them). Thanks, Richard and Clare!

Thanks for saying such generous things about us, and we have fond memories of Gabriela and Owen serenading us with their Christmas repertoire. It keeps us calm in our more stressed moments. But should you return to the Briarcliff next ski season, please be aware that – since your last stay – three-year old Miles and his ukelele have exploded onto the scene. We'd already met him last fall but he kept his powder dry until this spring when he appeared one day, strumming as he ambled, seemingly possessed by the spirit of the grandaddy of American folk music, Woody Guthrie. Granted, there were no vocals, he only knew one song and it only had one chord, but his deep knee bends were impressive. So if the kids want to retain their unofficial position as the Minstrels of the Briarcliff, we'll require vocals AND instrumentation in the future.
