If only this was an undiscovered treasure, then I could have first use of all the superlatives that this place deserves. Perfect, chic, affordable, spacious, affable, and on and on!! Bring on the thesaurus!!! And all so true.

This is an unexpected pleasure. Richard and Clare are wonderful urbane hosts. I am sure that if you turned up there and you were interested in "endangered insects of Great Barrington" you would be made to feel that it was their heartfelt interest too. They show a genuine interest in making your visit as pleasurable as possible.

The accommodation is extremely comfortable. And after all these trip advisor postings I would love to say that Richard's granola and Clare's scones were "meh" ... but how could I?? It was a wonderful complimentary continental breakfast served in a bright friendly space.

My husband and I spent one night here. The owners and the night manager (sorry, her name escapes me) were super helpful with dinner and hiking recommendations. There was plenty of hot tea and a good breakfast. The rooms are beautiful; there is nothing motelish about the clean, contemporary decor. The only drawback was that the (motelish) thin walls allowed our neighbors' animated conversation to drift into our room, which might have disturbed us if they had not gone to bed early. Even with that, I would stay there again, and highly recommend this inn.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a road trip around New England. Very easy to find on the main road on the north side going into Great Barrington. We arrived on a Sunday and it was very quiet. We had a very warm welcome from Clare and Richard and were shown to our room which was incredibly chic and cosy - spacious, a big bed, comfy chairs and a table, tv, hanging space, fridge. Beautifully muted decoration with splashes of vibrant colour. The bed and linens were sooooo comfy - I had two very good nights sleep there. Clare and Richard provided wonderful recommendations for eating (loved the Brickhouse in Housatonic) and driving routes. The breakfasts were wonderful - delicious homemade scones and muffins with coffee, juice and granola. You cannot walk into Great Barrington from here - a car is needed. We nosed through the windows of all the rooms whilst we were there - all different but all looked lovely.

We arrived unexpectedly on the Friday after Thanksgiving in-between family obligations and were treated like happily anticipated guests. Amy (the housekeeper) couldn't have been more helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the location was perfect for puttering around the nearby towns. While the front windows overlook the parking lot and garden, the back look out onto a lovely (and secluded) hillside, adding to the sense of privacy among the trees.

We are already making up excuses to head back to the area so we can take advantage of our stay a bit more and really enjoy the Berkshires!

After much web-surfing for the perfect little getaway spot, we decided to try the Briarcliff between Stockbridge and Great Barrington...and are SOOOOO glad we did! I was convinced for a long time that I "needed" to stay at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge for our late fall weekend away, but my wallet had other plans. Our king room at the Briarcliff was very affordable, beautifully yet simply decorated, and certainly large enough for my husband and I. The bed was comfortable, the linens chic, and the room was completely spotless. My husband is quite the carnivore, but he was as delighted as I was with the freshly baked scones, breads, muffins, homemade granola and local jams, yogurt, and coffee. Richard, Clare and Eileen were always available and were full of ideas for restaurants and attractions to make our weekend special. My only teensy weensy complaint is that we were awoken before 7 each morning by the preparations for breakfast in the lobby area, which was right next to our room. But the delicious breakfast, charming hosts, and cuteness of the room more than made up for that small inconvenience. We can't wait for our next visit!!

We had a wonderful time visiting the Berkshires for the first time, mostly because of the Briarcliff. The owners were so helpful with recommendations for things to do during the day & for restaurants at night. The motel was decorated beautifully with tons of charm and personality. The breakfasts in the morning were delicious - especially the cheese scones! We felt completely welcomed and will definitely return.

Highly recommended!

We decided to do a little Berkshires getaway for my birthday in November and after seeing a tweet about this little motel-turned-contemporary-b&b by Travel and Leisure there was no reason to look into staying anywhere else. And we are so happy we did!

Everything about this place was just right. First, I'm a sucker for beautiful thoughtful interior design. It was such a pleasure sipping on Barrington Coffee Roasters coffee in the morning while lounging against a comfy pillow "by the stove" in the common area. The breakfast was bountiful! I loved the fresh organic local yogurt with homemade granola that has just the right sweetness, but you could also choose from breakfast baked goods like scones, muffins and banana bread that the hosts bake every morning. Aran said the cheddar-dill scones were probably the best he's ever had! Our room was clean and also wonderfully welcoming! And I can't say enough about Richard and Clare - our wonderfully gracious hosts. All the love and sweat they put into this amazing place truly shows! And if you're wondering what to do, where to eat, what to see, they have tons of awesome recommendations! Oh, and location-wise Briarcliff is really close to anywhere you want to go in the area - from the towns of Great Barrington, Hausatonic, Lenox, Stockbridge, etc. to hikes like Bash Bish Falls.

Needless to say it was one of the best birthdays and we can't wait to keep going back! It's the perfect place no matter whether you simply want to frolic around the Berkshires or spend hours reading in cozy surroundings!
