“Wonderful Stay”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

My wife and I just stayed here and really enjoyed it. Major points for flat screen TV and free WIFI which is a huge plus in a region where cell reception is spotty. We loved the scones, granola, and yogurt offerings for breakfast. The location was perfect. The room, beds, and linen were clean and comfortable. We slept great. The staff was helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I stayed for one night during an extended driving tour of New England. The location, accomodation and amenities were all that we could have asked for, such that we were disappointed we were not staying longer.

We stayed with our three young children for a hiking and leaf peeping trip and had a fine time. Richard and Claire are lovely hosts. They made us feel welcome and well taken care of. They had great recommendations for things to see and do in the area, and went above and beyond in providing maps, directions, printouts and the like.

We haven't always felt truly welcome when traveling with our boys aged 7, 7, and nearly 5. Sometimes people see us coming and steel themselves to what they expect a family full of rambunctious boys might be like. Can't say it enough - Richard and Claire seemed glad to have us. Customer service was top notch.

Breakfasts were really tasty. Another reviewer mentioned the scones which are not to be missed.

The room was a little loud - I could hear the neighbors, which made me a little edgy about how loud our kids might sound through the walls. We could hear one neighbor walking and talking - but then didn't hear anyone else from the room on the other side so maybe he was just loud? At any rate, once he got settled in, it was very quiet except for a few passing cars on the road.

The location can't be beat. Monument Mountain is resplendent, and if you are planning to hike it, you literally could not stay any closer to the trailhead.

We chose the Briarcliff for our week in the Berkshires to see the fall foliage - affectionately known locally as "leaf peepers". Like many others, we found the accommodations remarkably clean and well maintained. The bed linens were fresh, comfy and warm. Room 15 came with a refrigerator which was particularly nice given our week stay. Shower had great pressure. One minor suggestion would be for larger bath towels. Both Clare and Richard seemed genuinely interested in helping us explore and enjoy our time in the Berkshires. They strike a perfect balance of helpfulness and interest without being in any way intrusive. Clare made reservations for us at the Dream-Away Lodge in Becket one evening - we recommend it highly for dinner and music - a lot of fun. The Briarcliff was a really good location for experiencing Great Barrington and exploring the Berkshire area. We can't recommend more highly the people, the B&B itself and the location. Unless you are looking for a high-end luxury vacation, this is the place to be. By the way - the scones and granola are as good as advertised. We wish Clare and Richard continued great success - they offer a special experience.

I couldn't have had a better stay at the Briarcliff. I'm picky when it comes to hotel stays, so I'm happy to have found this place. Cleanliness is the most important quality for me, and the Briarcliff was SO clean and cozy that I immediately felt at home. The bed and sheets were soft and comfortable and the decor was lovely and not at all stuffy like you often get in the Berkshires. I slept like a baby....The breakfast was delicious (home made granola and organic milk & yogurt) and we felt welcomed and taken care of without any pressure to socialize with other guests (don't you hate that?). We spent just one night here, but I can't wait to return!

We arrived about 6pm and the hotel is easy to find on the main road just outside the town of Great Barrington. You do need a car to drive to town.

Warm welcome and nice very clean room. Free wifi.
Breakfast was nice, with granola, fresh scones and coffee/juice.

Visited the Brickhouse for diner which was great.

I normally would not take the time to write a review, but in this case I feel compelled to do so because of all the positive features associated with the Briarcliff. The rooms were as advertised and more. They were freshly renovated with new furnishings. A king bed with a quality mattress and high end linens. And very clean. We were a group of three couples touring the area each of us would have stayed longer if we didn't have to return home. Richard and Clare have really figured out how to deliver and meet the needs of their customers. They are hands on and it shows. Even the breakfast was memorable -- handmade artisan granola and scones with coffee made in small batches from freshly roasted beans. Great value compared to the competition! John H.
