I have grown up in Great Barrington, literally born and raised and worked here and ever since I was little the Mahaiwe has been here. I remember watching the 4 hour epic Dances with Wolves and even recently Casablanca when it returned for a single showing on the big screen. My words can not give justice to the feel and sound and visual effects of a big old fashioned movie theather. This theather though went through some renovations which I was going to take away its history. Boy was I wrong. It looks so good and is the best place to see a big time picture around. I give it 3 thumbs up because I can.More
Show lessWe attend Mahaiwe events frequently throughout the year and have never been disappointed. MOMIX was particularly wonderful: unique choreography, stagecraft and superb dancing. Much better to see it at MAHAIWE than in larger New York Theaters.
This was a phenomenal performance. Theatre beautiful. Show beyond words. Not a bad seat in the house. Go see at any cost.
A absolute gem of a venue to watch a show or performance. Great sound and viewing from most seating. An intimate experience to see major acts and some movies.
The heat in the balcony was unbearable by the middle of the first act, even though I was not overdressed. Although some people stood, this was not an option for me. I heard three people complain about the heat. We left at Intermission, reluctantly, because I was not well enough to tolerate it. We would love to have seen the final act. Cumberbatch was stellar as Hamlet, and the supporting cast superb. It may be a while until this performance comes out in video, because of its popularity. We were disappointed.
I'm a part time resident of Great Barrington, and I love it when they have something going on that I want to attend. I think it seats fewer than 700, and they book some wonderful performers. I would suggest if you're coming from out of town get to GB early because parking can be VERY challenging within walking distance of the theater. There are any number of restaurants for a variety of tastes and budgets.
