“Great place in the middle of Great Barrington”

We had a wonderful time on a rainy night and enjoyed the food here very much. The food is eclectic, wholesome and made with local ingredients. Very friendly service in a nice environment.

“Delightful surprise in Great Barrington”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2014 via mobile

We went on the recommendation of a friend and boy... They were right. Refreshingly different tasty cuisine in a spare, modernist space who let you linger and enjoy the fine food and wine. Worth the trip to the Berkshires for this fine cuisine interlude.

“Solid”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2013

You cannot go wrong here, and you can go very right here. The reception, service, decor, and wine list are all on point, though nothing mind blowing; all top notch, not memorable. The food, though, is memorable. The chef works her best to source locally, and executes her dishes with finesse, care, and love. All the dishes we have had are extremely good, sometime great, often clever. Try the wonderful faro salad; so fresh, vibrant, and healthy. Pastas are extrememly good, though the house made sausage in the orchiette needs more umph. They are not shy about mains, with a delicious and succulent rabbit on the menu. Make a reservation; the place is justifiably packed.

“Food is good but not great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2013

This restaurant has been under numerous names over the years and the food for the most part hasn't changed too much. There are two sections to the restaurant, one on the left is a full restaurant and the one on the right is a bar/restaurant....the menus are the same. The noise levels in the bar side can be quite high and the music can also be turned up...so depends on the type of dinning you desire.

We had the mussels ($14) which were quite good with a different flavor compared to the usual mussel dishes elsewhere. The Kale Salad ($9) was good also. The Tagliatelle ($26) was OK but not great.

Service was quite good at times and other times you had to flag down someone. This restaurant is OK for a change but there are much better restaurants in the area.

“Interesting menu- fantastic food experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013 via mobile

We chose Allium for an evening meal on a stopover in Great Barrington after overhearing one of the cafe staff in Massachusetts Museum of Modren Art sing its praises, and we were not disappointed. The menu was varied and interesting without being overwhelming and had a good mix of lighter salads and plates as well as more substantial dishes. We had the truffle and pecorino popcorn as a starting snack which was delicious (and generously portioned). For main my husband had the burger which was intensely flavoured (and came with addictive bacon jam) and I had the hanger steak which was perfectly cooked and a well proportioned plate with interesting sides and delicious sauce. For dessert I had a semi-religious experience with the salted caramel ice cream. The service was quick and excellent - happy to explain the menus without making you feel stupid for not recognising ingredients, and the menu reflects their support of local farmers & food producers. The bar was well stocked & had a good range of whiskeys & some interesting cocktail choices. I only wish I was local so I could go back to try some of the other interesting menu options.
