My friend and I were meandering in Western Massachusetts and found ourselves on route 202. In the middle of the farmlands appeared Cindy's in its 1940's or 50's retro splendor. and is not a drive in per se anymore. The magnitude of choices is staggering- 100+ soft serve flavors- you choose one and then they mix it up for you. I am not a soft serve fan, but opted scoop of delicious black raspberry and a scoop of chocolate peanut butter hard ice cream. The "small" serving was enormous and creamy and served as lunch. My friend got the maple walnut and mentioned it was divine and there was quite a selection of flavors for hard ice creams. There were shakes, sundaes and then your standard fried fast food. The staff was friendly and generous with their portions. We sat on the edge of the meadow in pastel adirondack chairs and there were picnic tables and a play area for children. A nice place to stop and reasonable in cost.

We only went for soft serve ice cream. Really good. Nice and creamy. Nice area to sit out back. Huge open meadow with picnic tables and little plastic slides for kids. This is a must stop if your in area.

We picked Cindy's because of an online review that talked about the unusual playground consisting entirely of Little Tykes or Play Skool outdoor toys. While I can attribute some debris and dirt to being early in the ice cream season (it may have even been their opening weekend but I don't think so), I cannot forgive the quality of the ice cream, or the fact that almost their entire playground area was submerged in a huge puddle.

We spent over $16 for a "specialty sundae", two medium cones and a kiddie cone. All four servings of ice cream were thrown in the trash. The ice cream was flavorless and very watery. It was BAD. Even the three year old took a couple licks and said "I am done". This was true of both the chocolate and the vanilla - so it wasn't just one mix. The cones and dishes were huge, and they make a point of the servings being large - but why bother?

The playground area was situated in and around a puddle that was mid-shin deep. About a third of the equipment was in disrepair or not assembled. All it would have taken was a little effort to move the playground equipment which is VERY portable out of the puddle, and to re-assemble the equipment.

This place is not recommended, and was very disappointing to all four of us.
