As a native to the New England area I have been on several whale watches across the years; either out of Gloucester, Boston or even Cape Cod. It became quickly apparent, over time, that Captain Bill's is simply the best whale watch out of the Massachusetts area.

The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and make every possible effort to locate whales during their excursions. They follow the movement and lives of the whales and can often answer questions about even specific ones. They'll communicate with other companies in the area to collectively locate the whales if they do not immediately appear, which I think is pretty genuine and sporting of them.

Perhaps the most promising about this company is their "Rain check" policy. If a whale is not spotted during the outing the company will issue a free ticket for a rain check.

We have been going with Capt. Bill and Sons for twenty years because of their dedication to their customers and their knowedge of the seas and the whales. ALSO: When is the last time a business gave you exactly what you asked for and then said, "You know. We could have done better."? We went with Capt. Mark on the morning whale watch and were lucky enough to see Minkie and Fin whales. We understood that this was the ocean and not Sea World. The experience was amazing! But as we came into the harbor the captain announced that he knows most of us came to see humpbacks. So everyone could stay on board and go on the afternoon trip FREE. Capt. Mark was determined in the PM to find us Humpbacks and boy did he!!!! Breeching, feeding, tail slapping...marvelous! Thank you Captain for your gift!

Visited July 27th, 2013...
This is a great family owned operation...Started with the night before calling to reserve a spot...the lady we spoke with did so much more than write down out name...she gave us info about the free parking they provide, wearing a sweat shirt, directions and places to eat...The whale watch boat was comfy, some shaded seats (but don't be last on board), not crowded...and it was sold out...The naturalist on board kept you informed all through the trip about the whales and how they live, eat and have their young...our 11 year old granddaughter was engulfed...we were too...
we have done whale watches before on cape cod but this was better, worth repeating...we saw minke whales and humpbacks....thanks Nile and Pinball (humpback whales) for showing us your spectacular beauty...
Nice job Capt Bill and sons (and daughters :) hope to see you again...

We took this as a last minute decision. It was a great one. The crew was terrific, and we spent 2 hours in the ocean seeing 3 different kinds of whales. Perfect day on the ocean

My husband and I went whale watching with Captain Bill & Sons some twenty years ago and had an awesome trip then. Recently we did it again and were not disappointed. They've maintained their standard of boat and enthusiasm. Obviously it is all dependent on the weather and whether the whales show up! . We saw 3 humpbacks, several Minkes, a Fin whale and on the return journey, a 30ft Basking Shark. An absolutely awesome day. We will not hesitate to return to Captain Bill & Sons in the near future. Great day and great value for money.
