This place is one of the best in Gloucester. Hard to get reservations here because of its popularity. We went here for dessert because we couldn't get dinner reservations. Can't wait to try their dinner menu.

Our daughter made our reservation as a gift for our anniversary. We had a lovely table by the window (a bit on the small side, but fine) and our dinner was amazing from start to finish. The wait staff was very well informed and friendly. I have recommended it to many people since our time there. It was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary.

Local friends directed us here, saying it was much better than anything available to us in Rockport. They were right about that, but it was a disappointment all the same. We took our server's advice and ordered their "signature" dishes, lobster risotto for my wife, fish stew for me. The risotto was good, but most of the lobster was so tough it was inedible. The stew was mediocre, more like an anthology of seafood (some good, some indifferent) in a broth than a stew. The salads, though, were excellent. I had the impression of a restaurant with no real competition, coasting along on its local reputation.

Duckworth's Bistrot is in a small, storefront-type building on the way to Rocky Neck. It's a charming, bustling place, and you do need a reservation. We had to call more than a week ahead. The salads are made with fresh, local produce with interesting ingredients like apricots, pistachios, and heirloom tomatoes. The seared scallops were done perfectly and accompanied by local vegetables. The wine list is varied and offers half bottles and wine by the glass as well as full bottles. The staff was very helpful in recommending a wine. The restaurant was full and very busy, however we never felt rushed. Parking is a challenge, as the streets are narrow. Duckworth's is definitely worth the trip!
