Owner description: Trip Advisor's #1 of 26 Tours in Gloucester, 7 Seas Whale Watch has had the privilege of introducing thousands of passengers to the many species of whales and marine wildlife that inhabit the waters from Cape Ann and out to the Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary. Our trips run from mid-April to mid-October and are designed to educate, inspire and provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of our fragile marine environment. We are a family business – Three generations of career captains have worked from this very dock for more than 7 decades. We have a love and respect for the marine environment and a passion for providing the best possible customer experience for you and your family. We look forward to seeing you on the water.

Going on this whale watching trip was the highlight of our Northeast weekend. I wasn't sure that I could get my mom and sisters out on a boat to go whale watching, but I decided to purchase tickets in advance and hope that they would go. Was I ever glad I purchased in advance as the trip was sold out the day we wanted to go. The weather was perfect and made our whale watching day spectacular. We saw dozens of whales, dolphins, flying fish, etc. It is about 4 hours in total between getting there, watching the whales and then getting back, but is totally worth it. Went on a whale watching tour in Hawaii later in the year and it wasn't even close to as good as this tour. It is a bargain for what you get to see and how close you get to the whales. It's really is a must see.

I don't know what was better-being yards away from the humpback whales or listening to the highly knowledgeable naturalist narrate the trip!?! Everyone at 7 Seas was so friendly and professional! We saw 10 different whales (for extended periods of time each) and had a smooth sail out to sea and back. I would definitely stop in Gloucester to go out with 7Seas again on my next trip up the New England coastline!

Tip #1: it is a longgg ride out to where the whales feed, so do your body the favor of starting out inside the cabin to stay warm!

Tip #2: bring something to entertain you and those you are traveling with (no matter how old everyone in your party is) during the ride out to the whales and back.

Thank you for writing a good review of your trip with us and especially for complimenting our crew. While we can't control what the whales do on any given trip, we CAN control the quality of customer service we give to our passengers. We work hard to be the best crew in the business. It all starts with a smile and a positive attitude!

As far as the ride out goes, we never really know for sure how long it will be. The whales are, of course, wild animals and they going to be found wherever the feed (small schooling fish) is. Sometimes that's just 30 minutes outside Gloucester Harbor. Sometimes it's 2 hours out! Generally, though, it is about an hour from the dock to the whales. The trip itself is usually 3.5 - 4 hours total. But we will go wherever we need to go to ensure that we show you the best of what's around on that particular day. If we anticipate a longer than normal trip we try to let people know before we leave the dock in case it might interfere with other plans.

Thank you for the great review!

Fantastic trip out to spot whales. We were very lucky and got close to eleven whales. The talk given by the resident crew was fascinating. It was a cold day but warm in the cabin where we could get a coffee. Good value.

Anytime you go out on the ocean and see even ONE wild and endangered whale in its natural habitat it is a special experience. Seeing ELEVEN is just spectacular! I'm Glad you got such a good trip!

Thanks for writing!

We saw so many whales. Humpbacks, multiple times, and a bunch of Minki whales, not just breaching, but jumping completely out of the water, about a dozen times.
My 2 cents: Drinks and food on board are expensive. Bring your own!

Breaching is always fun to see! We don't see it every trip though so count yourself as amongst the lucky ones!

We first tried this whale watching trip in April 2011, with no luck, all we swa were 2 dolphins. As we were getting off the boat they offerred us a raincheck voucher but as we never thought we would be this way again we said no thanks.
Then in Sept 2012 the opportunity to come to this part of the world arose, so I emailed 7 seas to ask about the rain check. They had no hesitation in offering us a free trip. The tickets were waiting when we got to the booking office.

This time we had a fabulous trip, fin whales humpback whales and a group of dolphins. The trip was excellent, the knowledge of the staff superb and the whole experience just amazing.

Thank you for making the trip so effortless to book and so rewarding

I'm so happy you were able to come out again. It is exceedingly rare that we don't see whales on a trip. In the 26+ years that we've been in operation we have a greater than 99% success rate at finding whales. The waters off the New England coast are very productive and that's why Gloucester has become the world-famous fishing port that it is, and that's why we usually have a large number of whales in the area.

Thank you for writing and I bet your third trip will be more like your second!
