Description: The Gloucester House restaurant is renowned for its local lobster dishes and for the freshest North Atlantic seafood, prepared to perfection. Having been among the first to popularize fried calamari, our specialties range from award-winning clam chowder to homemade bread and cornbread, from Dottie's bourbon cake to Lily's wine list, and from Sambuca mussels to blackened haddock tacos to a fried fisherman's reuben sandwich. We always cook to order and have gluten free and vegetarian menus available, as well as children's meals. Dine full-service on our outdoor, dockside deck or eat lobsters in-the-rough on our harbor side wharf. Located on historic Seven Seas Wharf, there's something for everyone here: shop for souvenirs and local art at our General Store gift shop, enjoy a sail on the Schooner Thomas E. Lannon, or see the whales aboard Seven Seas Whale Watch. Whatever your fancy may be, the Linquata family invites you to join us year-round for a true taste of New England.

So much lobster! Lobster stuffed lobster, lobster pie, extra large lobsters... so much! They had a few raw bar options, so we had some beautiful oysters to begin. But really, lots of great seafood choices - scallops, haddock, clams, etc. Really loved sitting outside because it's covered, so you're protected from the elements, but still get some sea air and can look at the sail boats. Lovely meal overall.

Don't expect anything overly fancy, but Gloucester House is an excellent place to have a seafood dinner on the harbor. Everything is fresh and well prepared, and the staff goes out of its way to be helpful (though it's a big place that sometimes gets crowded).

A note from my wife: if you order lobster, ask them to crack the shell before serving. Hers was unusually hard--though the meat was tasty--and I had to help her with it.

The seafood was great and the fresh hot cornbread was a treat. The coleslaw was also really good and the waitress was very nice.

I ordered baked haddock, my favorite. The fish was good and fresh, although it was sitting in a puddle of water in the dish, that was a bit of a turn-off. Nice sides. My sister had the sizzling chicken with peppers, waaay too many papers on the dish, she left most of them. No decaf cappuccino. It's an old-time Gloucester place, and it's always been dependable, just not as good as usual this time. We sat inside and had a view of the tour boats coming and going, that was fun to watch those big boats getting in and out of the dock.

Whenever we visit Gloucester we eat at the Gloucester House. We love the history behind the restaurant & the food is usually good. It has gone through many changes throughout the years, but still remains a pleasant place to eat. Upon our most recent visit to Gloucester, we ate there & for the 1st time, sat in the enclosed outdoor seating area. It was so nice watching the boats come in & feeling the breeze come through the open windows. Our waiter was very attentive & helpful. The food is above average, though not outstanding. Yes, there are less expensive places to eat in Gloucester, but if you are looking for just a nice, less hectic place to spend the evening, with good service & decent food, this is it. There is a small gift shop on the grounds & our grandchildren enjoyed the large anchor situated out front.
