I visited Jalapenos in May but not for Cinco de Mayo; kind of a post Cinco de Mayo treat. The restaurant is pretty cool. I love the decorations. It's hard to believe it started out half the size and then expanded as it's always packed. I would say that's the one real negative. You have to time it early if you want to get a seat without waiting. Even take-out takes a long time if you try to get it around dinner and not earlier. When I went in May, my partner and I made a point to get there just as they opened. We were seated and it was pretty quiet and laid back. I love their food. It's never too spicy (although you can ask for it to be made spicier and they'll do it) and they have tons to choose from on the menu. The best part, of course, is the chocolate moose in a tortilla shell dessert. Amazing. Our waitress was nice. I have no idea how she remembers all those orders without writing them down! The food was great, the dessert even better, and no stress because the place was not filled up yet by the time we finished. Prices are a little higher than some out of town Mexican restaurants but not exorbitant. I recommend visiting if you're in the city for a day or a local craving some real Mexican food.
