Beautiful place and interesting. The tours offered inside are even better than what you see outside which is also pretty. A wonderful venue for a wedding..

We just had to visit this castle since my wife's maiden name is Hammond. In addition we visit every castle we can find. This castle was on a rocky ledge and very much a real castle as an American would imagine. It's a combination of Norman, French and church architecture. There are so many treasues, I took WAY more pictures than usual. I could have taken more.

The builder of the castle was John Jay Hammond allegedly inventor of remote control. He was quite a trickster using remote control technology to, let's say, startle his famous guests, of which there were many. You are given mostly free reign to room the castle. We were the second people to arrive that morning and they forgot to mention there was a tour. After roaming for an hour and a half, they told us about the tour but we were spent. There's too much to tell you in detail but be prepared to climb steep narrow winding stairs. It was a wonderful castle and well worth the very reasonable admission price.

My husband and I caught up about 5 minutes into the tour. The guide(wish I knew his name)
added so much history and anecdotes to the experience I feel much would have been unappreciated if we had just looked around ourselves. How else would we have known there is a weather system in the pool area and heard what a practical joker the castle owner was?
The gardens look unkempt, but the castle itself was intriguing.
As an aside, we saw a marriage proposal from the balcony the day we were there, couldn't hear a thing but it looked very romantic and was quite obvious she said yes!

This place is beautiful. We had so much fun roaming the grounds and enjoyed the interior. They have so much history there. The staff are great and really can answer any questions you may have. Going back again soon!
