We didn't sign up because of the rum and cigars, but it was the only time we had for a sail. This is an annual tradition, and many people knew each other, so right off we felt a bit out of place. The rum punch was good and they brought around 2 different types of rum to taste, but I cant drink it strait. Since we were on the water, the cigar smoke was not a problem, but flying ashes were. However - the views are lovely, the setting sun and being under sail made all the difference. Like others, I wish there had been some interaction between captain/crew and passengers.
The schooner is beautiful, spotless and we did have a nice evening sail.
