Owner description: The oldest working artist's colony in the country.

I was disappointed that most of the galleries were closed. Our visit was in early October; I was surprised that the "season" didn't extend into leaf-peeping weeks. The few that we were able to visit had great choices.

The artists are sooooo friendly and very classy artwork. Yep, I left a few coins with them. It's all along the harbor and so very picture pretty. We stayed at Rocky Neck Accomendations. Yes!

The scenic atmosphere and good weather made this an enjoyable visit. I particularly enjoyed the gallery of Paul George, an excellent landscape painter.

Treat yourself to a stroll along the picturesque Cape Ann coast while dropping in some of the most colorful art galleries any where. The Rocky Neck art Colony sports a thriving community of artists working in all styles and mediums, from world-class Sigrid Olsen, to far-out Imagine artist Brenda Malloy, and traditional plain-air painters such as Robert Gruppe and John Nesta, to name just a few. There are also funky and standard places to dine and a new, stunningly restored community center that offers interesting programming and exceptional exhibits. The August 2013 Ceramics Show has set a new standard for exhibitions of this material. And for the complete sea coast experience, take the Water Shuttle from downtown to get there!

Rocky Neck is picturesque and a great place to take a walk, but there weren't many art studios open. There is convenient parking on the right as you enter the colony.
