Not great, but not bad either. It is a typical Super 8 experience. No frills, but good price.

We made reservations at Motel 8 in Gardner, Mass a few days before arriving. I called them direct because I could not understand the "voice" on the Super 8 main 800 number. We stayed 4 days. Hotel was very clean and the people working there were all really nice. Everyone including the cleaning people were great. There were restaurants nearby we could walk to. My husband had a fractured foot and we asked for a first floor room and we got it. We were visiting relatives in Templeton a small town near Gardner.

Negative: They refused to take traveler's checks which seems odd as we had picture ID. The clerk also wanted our stay paid up front (4 days). We had a Credit Card and they could have held off charging it until we checked out but they did not.

We will stay there again but I think they should think more about accepting travelers checks. We stayed at a Red Roof in Binghamton NY on the same trip, and they happily accepted them!

Thanks again for the clean hotel and the few extras that were included. It was a good price for what was included.

My husband and I found ourselves having to stay at the Super 8 Motel one night recently. We normally stay at the Colonial but they were booked solid. Room was clean.....but if you' re looking for a good night's sleep , forget it - there were large refrigerated trucks there that night and one truckinparticular, was left running ALL night! Every 15-20 minutes, the truck would start up then turn itself off again. After calling the front desk to have the truck moved and nothing happened, I went out to our car to try to get sleep. My husband, meanwhile kept trying to have someone either turn off the truck or move it. After 2 hours of this, (1:30 a.m.) the manager offered to move us but at that point, my husband would have had to come out to the car, wake me up to change rooms. Now for breakfast.......that was a joke!!! There were two bagels (still frozen) and one donut.

To begin with, we booked this through the Super 8 chain's website directly and that was extremely easy. Also, because we are AAA members we got a very good rate. We were there in Gardner so my wife could attend a funeral in that town. We booked only a day in advance and we got exceptionally good rates on line.

We knew that we would not be staying in a luxurious facility from the price, though we expected maybe a little more in the way of quality. Our experiences there were not terrible, but they weren't great either.

We booked for a non-smoking room with two double beds. The beds were a little small and instead of fitted sheets on the bottom the housekeeping staff had placed flat sheets. Not a big problem, but when if we moved around at all they tended to come loose and had to be refitted on several occasions. The room size does not really allow much movement. The room was smaller than almost any other room we've stayed in, including those at other "budget" hotel chains. With two adults and two children it was tight quarters. Most of the furniture looked old with some scratches etc. The television worked well and there is a good selection of channels to choose from including HBO. There are no in-room movies. Phone service is good including free local calls up to 15 minutes. The requested wake up call at 800am came right on time.

The hotel has a small breakfast nook set up and serves a "continental breakfast" from 600-900am. We got there at about 830 and found the cupboard pretty bare. There were two cereal dispensers with Frosted Flakes and Corn Flakes to choose from. A single almost empty pitcher of milk was on the counter. There was a package of onion bagels (no creme cheese) and three or four individually packaged donuts. That was it. There was apple or orange juice and coffee (there was sugar but no cream.) It seemed that nobody really tended to the room and it appeared that breakfast was set out when the breakfast nook opened and what was put there is all that was going to be available for the day. While we sat there having breakfast two or three other guests came in, saw how little there was and left. One of the housekeepers came by two or three times and appeared impatient to clean up and close the room even though we still had 10-15 minutes until it was officially closed.

Check in was quick and expedient. The evening desk clerk was very helpful and polite. In the morning there was a new desk clerk and manager on duty. They were helpful but they seemed to have some difficulty with understanding English.
However, again they were helpful. Though it took me several minutes to explain my needs, they finally were able to help me arrange departure much later than their normal 1100 departure time. And when we finally checked out the experience was a quick and efficient as our check in was.

Overall I would say this was an okay experience. It is not the worst I have ever had, but it is far from the best either.

It should be noted that there are many options for meals in and around the hotel. There is a Dunkin Donuts across the highway and in the same parking lots is a Friendly's with very reasonable costs and a very broad menu...very family friendly. There is the usual array of fast food restaurants in the local area as well. In
the adjacent parking lot there are a number of stores, including a Rite Aid in the event you need over the counter medicines or grooming supplies. There are a number of other stores and businesses in the immediate proximity.

It is very conveninently located off exit 23 on Route 2 and easily located.

You get what you pay for. The rate was exceptional, and our extended departure only cost us another $30 instead of another night's rates. The hotel's close proximity to where the funeral was being held was our primary reason for choosing it.

As an amusing note, at the front desk there is a large sign posted with the "rules and regulations". One of them states that clothing must be worn in all common areas of the hotel.
I don't even want to guess why they felt the need to include that on the sign!

The rates are very reasonable, but don't expect high quality. The hotel itself is pretty old and the staff are truly friendly and helpful, but if you can afford to stay at another location a little further down the road it might be more worth your while.

For a lower priced hotel I was very happy to find a clean room and a hot shower. Sometimes is can be a gamble I have found. There was also a fridge and microwave in the room which was nice though I did not use them. Staff was friendly even when checking in late night.

We stayed here on our way across Massachusetts. We found it to be a nice clean Super 8 with friendly staff. Our room and bathroom was clean and we were pleasantly surprised to find that the room even had a fridge and microwave. Another nice surprise was the availability of high speed internet even though there was an additional cost of $3.00 per day. Breakfast was basic but did include bagels and cream cheese and a toaster oven to warm them.
There are numerous fast food outlets nearby and a Friendly's shares the hotel parking lot. If shopping is your thing there is a Big Lots next door.
