Hardcore carriage diner, very gritty very real - love it. Mix with the locals and have an fantastic breakfast. This area is one of the best areas in the country for authentic diners, and this one is up there.

We were in town for a wedding weekend and decided to seek out better food than our hotel breakfast buffet had to offer. The Moran Square Diner was just the ticket! It's tiny (seriously--maybe four booths and half a dozen counter seats?), but the food is hearty, fresh, and well-prepared. An excellent breakfast of eggs, toast, and home fries will set you back about $3. Specials range from the unexpected (asparagus, onion, and muenster omelet) to the classics (beef hash and eggs, heavy on the beef, with an extra side of home fries for the spud-lover). Blueberry pancakes were thick and fluffy, with real blueberries and not-real "maple" syrup. (Inexplicably, the pancakes also come with toast and home fries). The most expensive breakfast item was $6.75. Coffee was hot, fresh, and served with real half-and-half. Closed Saturdays. Parking is limited, but there's street parking nearby--and be prepared to pay in cash, because I'm not sure if they take credit cards.
