My wife and I stopped in recently for lunch and were very pleasantly surprised. Friendly, helpful servers and excellent food. Not the "everything tastes the same" variety of Mexican food you get at some of the chains - this is authentic and carries a diversity of tastes. There are a lot of fish and seafood options that we did not try (not being a fish lover personally) but the chicken quesadillas and the beef chimichangas were among the best we've ever had. We will be back again and again.

Stopped by midweek on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. Newly opened. Clean. I had the Carne Asado which was perfectly seasoned and served with typical rice and beans which were excellent. We had a chorizo and cheese appetizer prior to our main course. My wife had the steak taco salad and daughter the chorizo tacos. All better than any of the chain restaurants.

We had dinner at the newly-opened El Forestero and enjoyed it very much. It's a small storefront place in the plaza with Keller-Williams real estate and Bourbon Park, corner of North St and Rt. 187. It's been several cafes over the years ad not much has changed inside; still a few tables downstairs and more up in a balcony.

It wasn't busy during our mid-week visit and we sat downstairs. Servers were friendly and attentive. The menu had all the Mexican-American dishes you'd expect, plus a number of more interesting selections. We stuck with the basics this time. Thin, crispy tortilla chips with a green tomatillo salsa and a medium-hot red salsa were delivered right after we sat down; the salsas were served in small condiment dishes rather difficult for chip-dipping, but were fresh and very tasty, and were refilled as soon as the level got low. An order of guacamole (we got the large size, generous enough for 2) was excellent - creamy and very fresh.

Entree portions are huge - we both took home half of our orders. My husband's chicken mole enchilada had great flavor, with almonds in the mole and also sprinkled on top. The shredded chicken was tender but a little dry. My Chipotle chicken burrito was enormous, with chunks of perfectly cooked, moist chicken, strips of crispy green pepper, rice and a medium-spicy chipotle sauce. Refried beans were a cut above ordinary, chunky and not overly salty.

There's no liquor license but a good selection of virgin drinks (coladas, smoothies, juices) and Mexican and "domestic" sodas are offered. I had a Tamarind soda that was surprisingly good - not overly sweet, a little tangy and very refreshing. The Mexican sodas are bottled and made with real sugar, not corn syrup. We were too stuffed for dessert - maybe next time. They don't have a specific lunch menu but open at 11, and the prices are very reasonable. Overall a great local place - worth a trip to Feeding Hills. We'll definitely be back.
