“Great Italian food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

Took the wife out for dinner, was greeted by a friendly hostess and seated quickly. Started off with Calamari and some good Italian wine, had the Chicken Francese and wife Had the Veal malinase. Both were very good and cooked right. Had a piece of chocolate cake to finish meal great meal and will be back

“Reaquainting With An Old Friend”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013

Casa di Lisa started more than 30 years ago, and in the early days we were fairly frequent customers. Their take on mostly southern Italian dishes was reliable, the service was friendly and the overall quality was a little better than their numerous competitors. Italian-American food is only second to American food in its ubiquity in this country and certainly in this corner of New England. Then we became a little tired with the fare, our favorite waitress left, we began visiting Italy in earnest, the restaurant had a fire and there were other iterations of the restaurant. It was off our radar.

Lisa, the little girl whose presence and portrait adorned the early restaurant, is now in charge, the Bruno family is back in full charge, and I am happy to say it is still a pleasant dining destination. The greeting, both on the phone and in person is genuine and friendly.

There are a few variations beyond the 1980s time capsule of southern Italian recipes, the wine list has been substantially expanded, and the decor has been updated too.

On a Saturday night, at least at an early hour, the restaurant was packed with happy customers, presumably mostly locals and regulars. The wait staff is cheery and efficient, although you still get the occasional "who gets the veal piccata?" auction approach from a busy waitress. Kudos to the kitchen for promptly and deftly putting out a lot of food at the right temperatures and cooking times on a very busy evening. The salads were a little boring and dressing a little heavy.

There is a lot of Italian comfort food here, with a few dishes approaching the fancier end of the traditional dining spectrum. We were so full from appetizers, salads, mains and veggies that we didn't sample the dessert selections.

While some of the recipes are purportedly imported from the old country, they were imported in another time and place. There is a little bit of the time machine here. This is not cutting edge contemporary Italian cuisine, but something that came with the immigrants. That is fine, and there is a place for it. But it is not what we experience in Italy today. It is a trip down memory lane which we will be happy to take from time to time.

The restaurant is larger than it used to be. They have substantial banquet capability. Frankly, the food has a banquet style competence, uniformity, and lack of flair. Very good, uncomplicated food from a metaphorically old but reliable cookbook.

“Great food, but service needs help”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2013

This place has great food, however, the wait staff needs to either be replaced or re-trained. We've been going here for years, even had our Company Christmas party's here as well and never had a problem. Last Oct, we went for our anniversary, the host couldn't find our reservation. Luckily I had a print out of our confirmation I had brought w/me, but because of their error we got placed in the back at one of the tables that we absolutely dislike because you feel squished. Anyway, the food was great, but the wait staff we noticed had changed and not for the better. We waited forever for just about everything. We got there at 6pm and was finally able to leave by 9:30. Because of this we decided that we were not going to book for our Christmas party. We decided to go again this past weekend to see if things had changed over the past year, unfortunately it did not. They did have our reservation, but the waiter we had continually forgot things. We had to ask for water, bread, sides that went w/our meals, it was disheartening. My Husband and I again agreed the food was wonderful, but the service was ridiculous. I wish they would fix this problem. I'm sure we're not the only one's experiencing this here.

“Quality food, romantic atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013 via mobile

There aren't too many places that have good food and a nice dim lit atmosphere in this area. Everytime we have gone we have experienced great customer service and amazing food. It's certainly pricey but well worth it!

“Still one of our family favorites”

Especially great Italian food with authentic Italian recipes from the old country. We started going here over twenty years ago and we are never disappointed with our food or the service. We are glad that some things never change.
